Nice photo of this common species.
Of course, some authors treat this as P. benghalensis (=syn. P. plectranthoides)
In my personal opinion, after studying nearly 1000 specimens throughout India, it is better to treat it in former species as no clearcut difference could be drawn for both the species.

This plant is photographed in Kanha National Park where it has proved itself a very powerful weed by taking over most of the small grass lands between the forests and undergrowth in Sal forests.
It is an unpalatable plant for wildlife there.
May I request you to please help in ID of this plant.
Thanks for yr help.

See if your plant matches with Pogostemon benghalensis

It is Pogostemon benghalensis (Burm. f.) Ktze.
But i have not found any difference between P. benghalensis and P. plectranthoides.
Please can anyone clear my doubt.

For me this is Pogostemon benghalensis ..

Pogostemon plectranthoidesKali Basuti.

It is Pogostemon benghalensis (Burm. f.) Kuntze, and treated Pogostemon plectranthoides Desf. as synonym of the former in my works. But some authors treat them as separate species. P. benghalensis is highly variable with regard to leaf margin, verticillasters density and type of indumentum, it is better to treat them as one species.

I have noticed flowering month as December in FoI whereas Efn says March- May and couple of occasions I have shot in April month. Is December correct month for flowering ?

That is an interesting point you raised. … picture of Pogostemon benghalensis on FOI was taken on 31st January in Maharashtra. So December doesn’t look all that wrong, which was taken from Ingalhalikar’s Flowers of Sahyadri. The second image by Girija was taken in Mussoorie on 1st March. Maybe the flowering times in Western Ghats and the Himalayan foothills are somewhat different.
