Trees or shrubs, up to 8 m tall; bark grey, longitudinally split striate; branchlets brown, striate, densely yellow-brown villous, later slightly villous; buds covered with imbricate silky tomentose scales, glabrescent with age. Leaves simple, alternate, spiral; petioles ca. 0.6 cm long, stout; lamina ca. 3-9 x 2-4.5 cm, oblong-lanceolate or elliptic, narrowed or rounded at base, acute or shortly acuminate at apex, entire, coriaceous, pubescent along the mid-rib, pubescent to brown-villous beneath; secondary nerves 5-10 pairs, prominent beneath. Umbels solitary or 2-4-fascicled in leaf axil, with 0.2-0.3 cm long peduncle and involucral bracts, male umbel 8-flowered, female umbel 2-6-flowered; Male flowers yellow; pedicels ca. 0.4-0.5 cm, densely yellow-brown pubescent; tepals 6, ovate, ca. 0.35 × 0.2 cm, yellow-brown pubescent or glabrous on keel outside, glabrous inside; stamens 9, 0.4-0.45 cm; filaments glabrous, 2-glandular near middle in 3rd whorl; glands broadly reniform, cornute; pistil reduced; ovary ovate, ca. 0.15 cm; style ca. 0.1 cm; stigma obscure; Female flowers yellow; pedicels 0.3-0.5 cm; tepals 6, broadly ovate, ca. 0.2 × 0.15 cm; reduced stamens 9, ca. 0.15 cm, 2-glandular at middle of filament in 3rd whorl; glands rounded-reniform, nearly equal to length of filament; anther sterile or reduced to 1-celled, sometimes fertile and 2-celled; ovary obovate, ca. 0.2 cm, glabrous; style stout, ca. 0.1 cm, glabrous; stigma capitate. Fruits ca. 0.5-0.7 cm, subglobose, red at maturity; stipes stout, thickened toward apex, slightly yellow-brown pubescent.
