Abstract– This paper deals with the 18 species of Litsea Lam. endemic to India with special emphasis to the rare elements. Correct nomenclature, brief morphological description, flowering and fruiting period, subject to availability, ecology, distribution and uses, if any, have been provided for each species. The status of the relevant species included in the latest version of IUCN Red List of Threatened Species has also been provided.
