The species occurs from southern Europe, east through Siberia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, India, Pakistan and Nepal east to southern China (Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Sichuan, Taiwan, Yunnan, Zhejiang), Japan, Taiwan (Province of China), Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam and Indonesia (Yamazaki 1990, Cook 1996, Kress et al. 2003, Nguyen et al. 2005, Newman et al. 2007, Ahmed 2009, Kwek et al. 2009, GRIN 2011, NMNH 2011).

Annual erect herbs to 15 cm tall. Leaves 1-2.5 x 0.5-1 cm, elliptic to ovate -elliptic, margins entire or sub-crentae, scabrid, 3-5-nerved from base, sessile. Flowers solitary, axillary; pedicles to 1.5 cm long, slender. Calyx deeply 5-lobed almost to the base, 2-3 mm long; lobes linear-lanceolate. Corolla 3-6 mm long, white, upper lip almost circular. Stamens 4, fertile; anterior filaments with a small globular or slender spur at the base. Capsule ellipsoid, equal to or slightly longer than calyx. Seeds yellow, compressed-cylindric.
