Leaves 4.5 x 2 cm, ovate, elliptic, apex acute to acuminate, base cordate, margins finely serrate, glabrous above, finely tomentose below, base slightly oblique; petiole 7 mm, pubescent; stipules lanceolate. Flowers many, peduncles 3-5, axillary, 1.2 cm; bracts and bracteoles 1 cm, lanceolate; pedicels to 0.5 cm; sepals 7 x 1.5 mm, oblong, pubescent; petals 2 mm, oblong, entire, with a gland at base; stamens indefinite, unequal to 5 mm; torus 2 mm; ovary 4 mm, ovate, pubescent. Requesting again for an id of this small shrub found in large numbers found in Hampi area in Karnataka…. pictures taken few days back.
This could be Alangium salvifolium. Will send my photographs of this later.
My photographs (10) of Alangium salvifolium. Thanks for the pictures of Alangium salvifolium……. please check the close up pictures of the flower & fruits of the shrub which I have again attached with this mail……. color of the flower is orangish not white & the fruits are much smaller. Moreover Alangium salvifolium is a tree whereas this is shrub.
I found number of these shrubs around in the wild, not more then 5 to 6 ft tall and most of them have their branches spread over other small trees & shrubs…….one can say they were scandent.
The other possibility is Grewia damine [G.salvifolia], the Salvia-leaved Grewia. Yes it is Grewia damine

On 28/6/09 in Chilkur NP in Hyderabad. With so many species of Grewia flowering with yellow flowers there, there was lot of confusion as far as identification was concerned. Forest Flora of Hyderabad State on the net (which I think is the best net resource available from any states in India) certainly helps a bit, but not always-
GREWIAs confuse me.
Yet, what you have posted, to me seems G. asiatica … G. tiliaefolia has large leaves (probably the largest, especially the width, among the genus), and the flowers are probably the smallest … these are my own thoughts.

I think your guess of G. damine is better and closer to what it is; perhaps it is !!
G. asiatica can grow to become a large shrub … larger than G. damine … but I do not know about their canopies.

Images by Devendra ji appears close to images at Grewia damine Gaertn. I think both are different species, the first one is not clear, need to see the leaves proper. And for second it could be Grewia damine (=G. salvifolia auct.)
