ON going through the posts in efi I find it is very difficult to check this with naked eyes. Other factor is the number of stamen in the flowers, about which different sources talk about differently as below:
Most of our postings show 10 stamen. In view, I feel that we should take all these posts as Triumfetta rhomboidea and not Triumfetta pentandra.

do you mean OKRA as in ladies finger… dhedosh? In “Plant Groups” several wild plants have been mentioned as OKRA, in Bengali, with a prefix like TIKI or BON. It appears to me that OKRA had been chosen specially for spiny fruits, eg. one of the Bengali names of Xanthium strumarium is OKRA and it came from Hindi. But OKRA may not be spiny too, as in TIKI-OKRA.

Attachments (3) This Triumfetta sp. is unidentified since long in my collection. It is a small undershrub collected along a road in Pantnagar (315 m; Uttarakhand) area. Typically petals are spatulate, green, densely hairy and stamens are also densely hairy.

Triumfetta species in eFIoraofindia (with details/ keys from published papers/ regional floras/ FRLHT/ FOI/ efloras/ books etc., where ever available) This is unique specimen, never seen any such Triumfetta in our group. Flowers are green, buds not cylindrical …. I fail to connect it with all resources I have. I would like to draw your kind attention to the following words – “…in some flowers, the calyx resembled an involucrum, and corolla a calyx covered with stellate tomentum ” (T. neglecta Wight & Arn.).
Please add to above – 3-5 bracts (T. pentandra) (brtacts can be seen clearly in pic Triumfetta so_DSR_2.jpg).
TPL and FoP think T. cuneata Hochst. is synonymous with the above.
I think it maybe the one described under T. neglecta above. Else a new species that I do not know. It is Triumfetta rhomboidea (Syn. Triumfetta tungarensis Billore described from Tungar hills of Maharashtra but it was merged by Koshy and Almeida sir.)

Please help with the Manipuri name of Triumfetta rhomboidea – leehing (hopefully vaild) listed at ENVIS-FRLHT, in native script. Although this name appears in two books on plants of Manipur, I am quite doubtful about it. None of the people who are well versed with Manipuri local names of plants, in my circle, seem to have heard this name. Anyway, it would be put in the script as লীহিং Your doubt is correct … I made a search again; it finds a mention as a local name in Haryana Forest Flora !!
But, it is equally strange to consider leehing as a name in Haryanvi, which could best be written as लीहिंग.
It is bit difficult to digest that a name is used for same plant in two extreme places of our country, and nowhere in between.

Can you check up with the details of the spines & stamen as per the following?
In T. pentandra, there are having 5-10 stamens. The spines on capsule should have spreading hairs.
In T. rhomboidea there are 10-20 stamens and spines are glabrous.
The site is very far away. By the way images are also not so clear but looks like 10 stamens only ! I think images should be of Triumfetta rhomboidea as stamen appears to be 10 as per discussions & keys in efi thread

(Key- Stamen 10 as compared to 5 in Triumfetta pentandra A.Rich. as per efi thread) My thoughts:
Number of stamens in T. pentandra is not always 5 … It could be more, is what I have been seeing.
The mentioned efi thread does not compare shape and size of fruits.
In case of T. pentandra, the fruits are ovoid, and in case of T. rhomboidea – globular.
The posted plant has ovoid fruits.
I will keep the posted plant’s observation labelled as T. rhomboidea. In Flora of Karnataka it is mentioned under Triumfetta pentandra that the fruits are globose to ovoid with bristles hairy on one side. Buds are constricted in the middle. Under Triumfetta rhomboidea the bristles are glabrous except at the base. In Flora of North America the fruits of T. rhomboidea are said to be globose to ovoid-globose.
It seems we need very clear close up images to see these details, as well as seeing the overall habit of the plant.
