Small tree!

May be Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels as per comparative images at Syzygium‎ & as per checklist of Nepal.

Is the flowering period ok. It has not yet flowered.

Check with observations in efi site.

Flora of Bhutan gives flowering as Feb. to August. I think this may be both flowering and fruiting time.

On checking with keys in Flora of Bhutan at Syzygium‎, there is another closely related species as per keys at

Calyx tube 4—5mm, cup suddenly contracted into stalk-like base; stamens 4— 7mm…………………………………………………………………………….. 8. S. venosum

Calyx tube funnel-shaped, tapering and not suddenly contracted into stalk-like base ……………………………………………………………………………… 10. S. cumini
Flora of Bhutan mentions, Fl. -Fr. time as June to November. So S. venosum is possible. It also gives its habitat as Warm broad-leaved forests and river banks in dry valleys, 300- l410m, while for S. cumini it gives Subtropical and warm broad-leaved forests, 200— 1580m. February —August.

However, I am unable to decide based on the above keys.

Complete description of S. venosum is as below:

Tree 6- 25m. Leaves leathery, elliptic to obovate, 8 — 12 x 2.5 — 6cm, abruptly acuminate or caudate, base attenuate, glossy above, veins numerous, slender, weakly prominent on both surfaces, intra-marginal vein conspicuous; petiole 1.1 2cm. Cymes terminal and axillary, 4 — 8cm diameter, many-ﬂowered; peduncle 2 —6cm. Flowers sessile. Calyx 4—5 x 4—5mm, cup abruptly narrowed into stalk like base, very shallowly lobed. Petals white, -4mm, shed together as ﬂowers open. Stamens cream, 4 – 7mm. Style c 4mm. Fruit obovoid, c lcm, ﬂeshy when ripe, pinkish crimson.

Complete description of S. cumini is as below:
Tree to 25m. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic, sometimes ovate or obovate, 6— 13 x 3—6cm, acuminate, base cuneate, veins numerous, intra-marginal vein +/-conspicuous; petiole 1.5—2cm. Cymes borne in axils of older and fallen leaves, c 8cm diameter, many-ﬂowered; peduncle 0.5 — 10cm. Flowers sessile. Calyx funnel-shaped, tube 3 — 5 x 2 — 3mm, tapering into stalk-like base, lobes shallow, persistent. Petals creamy, 2mm, shed as a cap. Stamens 2 — 5mm. Style 2 — 4mm. Fruit obliquely obovoid, l x O.6cm, crimson, becoming black when ripe.

Question is how to verify with the keys as other aspects look similar.
