Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch is distributed from India to South East Asian countries.
.
B. reinwardtii (Zucc.) Kl: Leaflets 10-20 pairs, tip rounded,, base equal, lateral nerves slender, oblique; peduncles slender; capsule almost as long as calyx.
B. sensitivum: leaflets 6-15 pairs (nearly 12 pairs in var. nervifolium in FBI), usually apiculate, terminal leaflet with oblique base, lateral nerves few slender (strong in var. nervifolium) and wavy, especially in lower part.
.
The species is often confused with B. sensivitum in which peduncles are much more robust, pedicels hardly 1/3 as long as calyx, larger flowers and capsule shorter than fruiting calyx.
.
Flower pedicels are always longer than sepals in B. reinwardtii, but the pedicel is always half or less as long as the sepals in B. nervifolium. Further the nervation is more clear and strong in B. nervifolium.

Biophytum sp. from Chakrata:
Is this Biophytum sensitivum (L.) DC? This herb was captured from roadside of Dakpathar to Chakrata. kindly validate/correct.

Yes … Nice photographs

This is not Biophytum sensitivum (L.) DC. This is B. reinwardtii. Biophytum sensitivum has pedicels 1/3 of the calyx length.

I too have the opinion of …
In Biophytum sensitivum, according to Gamble, Stem generally short, sepals usually longer than the capsules, main nerves of the leaflets are numerous, secondary nerves many and pedicels 0.1 inch long.
In B. reinwardtii stem generally slender, main nerves of leaflet few, sepals as long as or shorter than capsule and secondary nerves almost none and pedicels 0.2-0.3in long.
Refer Gamble Vol-1 pp-133.

Thanks … for this correction. By the way The plant depicted on Flowers of India as B. sensitivum are much longer even longer than above plant. Please give your opinion about that.

I also fully agree with …, but my question was about the identity of B. sensitivum shown at Flowers of India which has clearly very long pedicels:
flowersofindia

To me pictures given at Flowers of India for both the species are same.
I mean, they are of B. reinwardtii.

Yes … That is what I wanted to focus on.

Balsaminaceae, Geraniaceae and Oxalidaceae Week: Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch:

This picture has taken from Kerala. This is a rheophytic species.
Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch is distributed from India to South East Asian countries.
It is one of the most variable species. Experiments with seeds collected from a mother plant sowed in full shade, all the seedlings are having very long stem, on the contrary the other lot sowed in full sun having no visible stem at all. Many species were recently published solely based on such variable characters are to be lumped into one species.

Thanks … for this interesting upload. The week, commencing on March 4, Monday should see interesting activity.
I was about to write to you when I saw your this mail.
………………………………………

Is this the same plant (with one image).

Your plant is Biophytum nervifolium

Thank you. How do you differentiate between the two species

According to the Plant List, B. nervifolium Thwaites is synonym of B. sensitivum (L.) DC.
B. reinwardtii (Zucc.) Kl: Leaflets 10-20 pairs, tip rounded,, base equal, lateral nerves slender, oblique; peduncles slender; capsule almost as long as calyx.
B. sensitivum: leaflets 6-15 pairs (nearly 12 pairs in var. nervifolium in FBI), usually apiculate, terminal leaflet with oblique base, lateral nerves few slender (strong in var. nervifolium) and wavy, especially in lower part.
Perhaps … can throw better light on this.

The Plant List is a compilatoring organization, thoughtlessly copying the errors by others and adding some more of their own. Tropicos is but slightly better.
Regarding the identity of B. nervifolium and B. reinwardtii, it is quite simple
Flower pedicels are always longer than sepals in B. reinwardtii, but the pedicel is always half or less as long as the sepals in B. nervifolium. Further the nervation is more clear and strong in B. nervifolium.

You are right …
I have already pointed out more than 500 mistakes to the managers of The Plant List. The worst is their listing of unresolved names and numerous double author binomials making use of (——) —–, but not having any synonym, not even the basionym.

Balsaminaceae, Geraniaceae and Oxalidaceae Week: Oxalidaceae-Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch from Dakpathar-GS-1:  (3 images)
Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch, Naturw. Reise Mossambique 85 1861.

Syn: Biophytum sensitivum var. reinwardtii (Zucc.) Guillaumin; Oxalis reinwardtii Zucc.
Local names: Durumbhir, surumsing (Mundari), Lajouri (Oraon)
Annual herb with simple stem; leaves whorled at the tip of stem, paripinnate compound; leaflets 10-20 pairs, oblong with equal base, nerves slender, oblique, uppermost pair usually largest, tip rounded; flowers yellow, in umbellate cyme carried on long slender peduncle; pedicel 5-7 mm long, usually 2-3 times as long as as calyx; sepals and pedicels covered with glandular hairs; petals yellow, almost twice as long as sepals; capsule as long or longer than fruiting calyx.
The species is often confused with B. sensivitum in which peduncles are much more robust, pedicels hardly 1/3 as long as calyx, larger flowers and capsule shorter than fruiting calyx.
Thanks to … for helping in correct identification of this species on an upload by … last year.
IT APPEARS THAT THE B. SENSIVITUM ON THE WEBSITE OF FLOWERS OF INDIA MAY ACTUALLY BE B. REINWARDTII ONLY. THE ONE UPLOADED ON FOI AS B. REINWARDTII I INITIALLY THOUGHT TO BE B. SENSIVITUM BUT AFTER SEEING THE UPLOAD BY… TODAY WITH ALMOST SESSILE FLOWERS THE ONE ON FOI MAY ACTUALLY BE A SHORTER PEDICEL FORM OF B. REINWARDTII, MEANING BOTH ON FOI ACTUALLY BELONG TO B. REINWARDTII, AS SUGGESTED BY … LAST LAST YEAR.
PERHAPS … SHOULD HELP SOLVE THIS.

Of course, the pictures are B. reinwardtii

This is Biophytum reinwardtii

Thank you very very much … for validating this ID.
Will make corrections in my notes soon.

Those having read this post and ID validation may find … post What is Biophytum sensitivum in India interesting.

I would like to know if there is any consensus on B. reinwardtii being touch-sensitive. There are some conflicting accounts of this facet in certain sources; in the Flora of Eastern Ghats by Pullaiah & Rao, B. reinwardtii is described as “not sensitive to touch” while B. sensitivum is “sensitive to touch”. Have attached the key herewith.

Many taxonomists are working on dried specimens having no chance of seeing the living plant in the field. Such key has no use in the identification process. Correct me if I am wrong.

This plant is growing in our garden as monsoon weed. Total height of this plant is about 6 inches.
Flowers are small less than a cm across.
May I request you to please help in ID this plant.

Biophytum sp

Biophyton sensitivum (Oxalidaceae).

Agreed. This is the Little Tree Plant. Please check this link

Biophytum sensitivum… to me

One may be surprised and shocked if I say Biophytum sensitivum (L.) DC. is not available in India.
Biophytum sensitivum has the sepals more or less equal to the petals whereas in B.nervifolium it is just half a way up to the petals (Ref. eflorofindia thread 1)
Santosh ji has done a lot of research on this genus and his conclusions should be more authentic than The Plant List. It is convenient for us that we place all our specimens of B. sensivitum (from India) under B. nervifolium; (efloraofindia thread 2)

I think these should be Biophytum reinwardtii (Zucc.) Klotzsch as per details herein.
