Herb(unknown) from Assam : 7 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (6).

Attached images are unknown herb from Assam. Please ID the plant
Date :18.06.2014
Location: Assam
Family : ??
Genus & species : ??
Habitat: Grows wild on open space
Habit : Radiating herbs
Flower : Small, yellow-orange

I have sufficient hesitation, but you may check Alysicarpus bupleurifolius DC.
It should have terminal raceme. But, FBI combines it with two FI entries – 1) with red flowered http://www.plantillustrations.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=61405 and 2) Hedysarum gramineum Retz.
Two relevant links are –
  1. http://www.botanicus.org/page/477094
  2. http://www.botanicus.org/page/477095
In Roxburgh’s word – 1) “Difference of soil and situation produces such great changes in this plant….”; 2) flowering time the wet and cold season’ 3) raceme (spike in another entry) terminal and leaf opposed.
Foc informs flowers are yellow, while FoP says red. More illustrations – http://www.plantillustrations.org/species.php?id_species=49160 and EFI page – /species/a—l/f/fabaceae/alysicarpus/alysicarpus-bupleurifolius.
Perhaps this population is yet to develop a terminal spike/raceme. Or maybe I am moving towards wrong direction.

is the fruit a legume?….or it could be polygala sp.?

Thank you all for probable Id but I think this is not the sp. belong to Fabaceae. Because I observed the following some characters of the species :

1. small herb, branches arise from the base of the stem.
2. Calyx 5, unequal, 2 large, 3 small.
3. Corolla 3, unequal, one petal bear branched appendages at its dorsal surface (interesting character).
4. staminal tube present.
5. fruit not legume.
So, please Help in ID of the sp.

… hesitation and … hint both appeal to me too, this may be a Polygala sp.

Yes, Sir, this is Polygala, I was totally wrong, may be P. chinensis L. var. chinensis (syn. P. glomerata Lour.)

… hints and an article entitled ‘A Revision of the Genus Polygala L. (Polygalaceae) in Taiwan’ help me to identify the species as Polygala chinensis. Again thank you all.

Fabaceae-Faboideae (Papilionaceae) Week :: DV – 25AUG08 :: ¿ Stylosanthes ? in Mumbai: Have got only one not-so-good photograph; but would like to try my luck knowing this plant belonging to FabaceaeFaboideae (Papilionaceae).
Any possibility of Stylosanthes ?

Place: untended lawn in urban area of Goregaon, Mumbai
Time: Aug 25, 2008 at 12,22 pm
Habit: small procumbent monsoon annual herb, not sure if the plant would grow erect
Habitat: untended urban area
Plant length: about 1 ft.
Older leaf: about 3 – 4 cm X 1 cm
Flower: about 3 mm across
Observation: very brief bloom period, just about half an hour, could be lesser. The tiny buds open on receiving direct sunlight, and fades quickly.

Could dig out another photograph show flower in better glory.
Attached also is cropped version, to show closeup.
Apologies for bad quality of photo.

I am not very sure but this could be some Polygala sp.?

Can this be Polygala linarifolia ?
Matching characters:
–Herbs erect 35cm Ht.
–Leaves 4-5 cm X 0.5-1 cm; linear lanceolate;apiculate at apex’
strongly single nerved.
— Flowers 5-7 mm long yellow in leaf opposed racemes.

Many thanks … for the possible ID.
All seems to fit, except the size of flower; it was I remember to be real tiny, just as much as 2 -3 mm, for benefit of doubt, could be 3 – 4 mm.
It was found more of procumbent.
But will not stress on this observation; these may differ with habitat.
Let us wait for comment(s).

Appears close to images at Polygala glomerata

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Polygala_DSR_01.JPG/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Polygala_DSR_3.JPG/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Polygala_DSR_2.JPG/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Polygala_DSR_4.JPG
This Polygala is photographed yesterday (17.9.15) in Pantnagar.
It is prostrate, branching at base, about 15- 25 cm across (range of branches on ground). Fruits are equal to lateral sepals, white, emarginate, oblique at apex and ciliate on edges. Seeds 2, white, covered with spreading white hairs, appendages at base-3, subequal.
Which species it may be?

Adding little more here- the seeds at maturity are black with white spreading hairs.

Polygala species in eFloraofindia (with details/ keys from published papers/ regional floras/ FRLHT/ FOI/ Biotik/ efloras/ books etc., where ever available on net)

Pl. check with images at Polygala glomerata Lour. May be close.

I am not sure of its ID and meanwhile considering it as P. chinensis (=P. glomerata).

Looks close to P. chinensis.

Nice pictures …, but this is not P. elongata.
pl check this link http://www.flowersofindia.in/catalog/slides/Narrow-Leaved%20Milkwort.html

What do you think it is then. Polygala arvensis?

It may be P. chinensis. But flower and seed features needed to confirm it. Let’s wait for more responses.

…..short (shorter than leaves) supra axillary racemes…. I guess it is P.chinensis.

Pl. find the attached file contain photo for id.request.
Location: NBNP, Anaikatti, Coimbatore Dist.,
Date: 01.12.2011
Habitat: Wild
Habit: Herb

Appears to be some Polygala species. Side view might have helped further to confirm the genus as the fringed lip is not clearly perceived here.

Yes Polygala but very unique colour. never seen it before

Pl. check.

It is Polygala erioptera

To me looks different from Polygala erioptera DC. as per images and details herein.

I think it should be Polygala glomerata Lour. (syn: Polygala chinensis L.) as per images and details herein.

Looks like a Polygala sp.

Probably Polygala chinensis

Thanks and yes, …
