Anemone rupicola Canbess. (Ranunculaceae) is a less frequent alpine herb in Uttarakhand usually found above 3600m. Photographed in Sunderdhunga valley, Bageshwar district, Uttarakhand. This appears to be correctly identified.

Anemone rupicola Cambess. [recently renamed as Eriocapitella rupicola (Cambess.) Pusalkar, D.K.Singh & S.K. Srivast. In Indian J. Forest. 35(1): 108. 2012.] is an uncommon species in alpine zones of Uttarakhand but produce large beautiful flowers.
The transfer of this species from Anemone to Eriocapitella is yet not accepted in The Plant List 2013, TROPICOS or GRIN. This appears to be correctly identified. I will leave it to others to decide the validity or not of Eriocapitella.

It seems to be Anemone rivularis. now can you please tell me where can I read in concise detail about flora of the himalayas near 9000 feet or so above sea level.. I just do not know what can grow that far up and am always amazed when anybody comes up with these fantastic beautiful pictures…. You can enjoy some of these photographs
Sorry, this does not match Anemone rivularis. I think this is more likely to be A.rupicola – which varies a good deal. Stewart recognised varieties glabriuscula and sericea (there would presumably also be var. rupicola as well). He describes var. glabriuscula as a handsome rock plant @ 2700-4500m in Kashmir & Ladakh; whereas var. sericea had a similar distribution but concluded these varieties were probably only forms, hardly varieties.     I have not come across Anemone rupicola since I started using digital cameras, so can only post images taken on slides in the 1980s and scanned in.
Nevertheless, I consider they represent a worthwhile addition to what is currently available on eFI – especially as there has been confusion between this plant and some forms of A.obtusifolia and A.rivularis.
The quality of the images 3 & 4 is poor and I would not normally submit these but they represent the best close-ups of the flowers available.
Getting the exposure right for white flowers under very sunny/bright conditions is difficult.
Hopefully, these modest images will encourage others, particularly who can trek in Kashmir and Ladakh to firstly RECOGNISE this attractive Anemone and then take MUCH better close-ups in the years to come.
Image 2 would fit with Stewart’s Anemone rupicola var. sericea.

Flowers of the Himalaya records this from rocks and open slopes @ 2700-4300m from Afghanistan to SW China.
Stewart described it as a handsome rock plant at high altitudes from 2700-4500m in N.Pakistan, Ladakh & Kashmir.
He recognised vars. glabrisucula and sericea but felt the two varieties were probably only forms, hardly varieties.
Just come across a fine photo (albeit only a slide which has been scanned in) taken during a trek from Baltal in Kashmir to Suru Valley, Ladakh showing an expanse of A.rupicola, taken by the late Oleg Polunin, who made this available to me.

Further to my recent posts about Anemone rupicola, I am attaching some images of this plant taken by the late Krishan Lal at some 4000m at Patseo, Lahaul (which is close to the bottom of the route up to the Baralacha La.

Some of the flowers are rather battered and ‘dirty’ plus the exposure is not that good (always a problem with white flowers under sunny conditions) but help show the variation of this species, so worth sharing. .
