Requesting to please validate the ID (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza) of this mangrove captured in a small village near the Konkan coast, Devgad, Maharashtra in May 2014.


Yes this is B.gymnorhiza. The red large flowers are characteristic.

Thanks for the pictures. I am also much confuse regarding this species. In Sundarbans part of Bangladesh could 3 species occur. I am attached here with some picture in three e-mails. I hope all of you cordial suggestion.

Yes this is B.gymnorhiza. The red large flowers are characteristic.

Also fruit is smaller compared to those of Bruguiera gymnorhiza

bruguiera gymnorrhiza: Bruguiera gymnorrhiza of the Rhizophoraceae family- a few weeks ago, at the edge of the sea- havelock island, andamans


is called Kankda in Bengal. 


Nice photographs… this mangrove plant is very common in Sundarban region of W.B. I had also seen a few of this plant in Taki, Basirhat, WB and is locally known as “Kankra“.

There is a mix up here.
