Uncaria scandens

Himalaya to S. China and Indo-China as per WCSP;

Assam; Bangladesh; China South-Central; China Southeast; East Himalaya; Hainan; Laos; Myanmar; Nepal; Thailand; Tibet; Vietnam; West Himalaya as per Catalogue of Life;

Plant more or less pilose throught. Stems brown-tomentose. Hooks tomentose, Stout on older stems. Leaves. Leaves ovate oblong, acuminate, base obtuse to subcordate, sub glabrous to strigillose above, sparsley to denselystrigose beneath, veins raised, primary pairs 8-10, tertiary veins distinct, petioles to 6mm, pubescent. Stipules deeply bifid, lobes ovate triangular. Inflorescences racemose. Flower heads 4-4.5cm diameter, interfloral bracteoles numerous filiform spathulate. Calyx densely pubescent, lobes linear spathulate, 2-3mm. Corolla white, greenish or yellowish pubescent, tube 8-10mm, lobes oblong, 2-3mm. Style excerted 2-6mm; Stigma elongate-clavate, c 3mm. Infructescence 2-2.5cm diameter, pubescent; Fruit subsessile, obovoid, 7-8mm.

Request ID. Possibly a liana. Leaves opposite; fruits stalked, emerging from axils of leaves, somewhat superficially resembling the fruits of Anthocephalus cadamba. Photograph not so good.

I can see big recurved spines in the background.

Fruit sessile, obovoid to oblanceoloid, 6-9 mm, hirtellous- stipules deciduous, ovate, 6-10 mm, deeply 2-lobed, strigillose, puberulent, or glabrescent, lobes lanceolate, ovate, or narrowly triangular, acute) than Uncaria sessilifructus Roxburgh (Fruiting head 25-35 mm in diam. From the above, I have the feeling that there is not much difference in the stipule lobes. Pl. check and let us know.

…, how can we measure to the fruits and shape too, there is not clearly a single fruit, there is only clumped fruits with inflorescence, that’s why only I took which character(stipules) differentiate with photos.
