These images represent mature female catkins and infructescences of Salix karelinii Turcz. which was described as S. hastata by many taxonomists like Hooker, Brandis, Collett, Parker etc.
The diagnostic characters are: Shrub; branches dark brown to black, glabrous; leaf blades ovate-lanceolate or oblong-obovate, acute or shortly acuminate, denticulate or sometimes glandular serrate, green above and pale beneath; glabrous; midrib prominent on both the surfaces; female catkins slender, cylindrical, erect to sub-erect, subtended with 2-3 basal leaves; bracts of female flowers reddish-brown.
