Very tiny green flowers with yellowish tinge.

Here is same plant at different location. ..Nanivali Mulshi Near Pune.

The characters are better appreciated here hopefully
Leaves alternate apex mucronate. Size 3-4 cm elliptic ovate.
Flowers single axillary with long peduncle.
A nice orange berry fruit is also observed.

Shrub for Id from Shimla-2010:

This looks like Osyris lanceolata of Santalaceae.
I am not aware about its presence in the said region though.
I have uploaded similar plant from western ghats earlier.

Can this plant be Osyris arborea as has been reported from the area, as per Flora Simlensis (page 442). I am attaching the illustration of this plant from the same flora for reference…

Osyris arborea is a synonym of Osyris lanceolata Hochst. & Steud., according to “the plant list”. Even Osyris quadripartita Salzm. ex Decne., that is described in Flora of China (http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=123377) is also a Synonym of O. lanceolata

It is osyris arborea

I think the only species of Osyris from India: Osyris quadripartita

As per Flora of India vol-23 (page-61-62) we have only one species of Osyris which is O.quadripartita (now known as O.lanceolata in TPL 2013). Here the pics show only male flowers which are born in axillary peduncled clusters. Female flowers or bisexual flowers are solitary axillary. However, leaves seems variable in the species as these are little different from the plants here in Uttarakhand.
Despite of variability it is O. lanceolata.

Thank you very much sir. I had only seen the female flowers until.

Although many posts on this plant already exist on efloraindia, I
wanted to share close ups of its beautiful fruits, which always
attract me. I have inquired many people of different ages for its
local names for the last four years, but did not got any one who was aware. I have found only one Hindi name ‘JANGLI CHAI’ for this plant in literature.
I have heard that its bark can be boiled into a tea and also tried it once after searching for its safety/toxicity in literature. It was
good in taste.

Really nice pictures, …

I need some clarification as to only one sp. of Osyris as mentioned in the ID links.

I will rely more on Catalogue of Life in this situation.

However, Flora of India Vol 23 (2012) (Editors N. P. Balakrishnan, T. Chakrabarty, M. Sanjappa, P. Lakshminarsimhan & P. Singh- by Botanical Survey of India) mentions it as Osyris quadripartita Salzm. ex Decne. 61

Thank you … That means both are same sp. and only.
