The Gujarati name of this plant is ફુસિયું / Fusiyun. You might recall another Asteraceae herbTricholepis glaberrimawith a similar sounding Gujarati name – Fusiyarun. I’ve noticed that certain plants which tend to cling on to animal fur or human clothing are addressed as such in Gujarati.

Is this Bidens pilosa? Looks a little different from the other B. pilosa plants I have seen. Is it the variation ‘minor’ as in efloraofindia page? Please advise.
Above Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, HP
June 2016
1800m

The ray florets are not very prominent, so it may be Bidens bipinnata L

Thank you … once again. Doesn’t B. bipinnata have pinnate fern-like leaves?

Leaflet (segment) margin is prominently toothed/serrate, so it should be B. biternata. Also leaves are less divided with large terminal segment. In B. bipinnata leaves are twice to thrice pinnatisect with entire leaflet (segment) margin. Both lack rays or may have up to 5 yellow ones, they are white and prominent in B. pilosa.

Thank you very much … once again. I had thought of B. biternata and then disregarded it because of the number of leaflets; http://eol.org/pages/2895874/overview
My sample had three instead of 5-7 suggested by the eol site.

Nice case to remember for good pictures and … differential diagnosis
