The Gujarati name of this plant is ફુસિયું / Fusiyun. You might recall another Asteraceae herbTricholepis glaberrimawith a similar sounding Gujarati name – Fusiyarun. I’ve noticed that certain plants which tend to cling on to animal fur or human clothing are addressed as such in Gujarati.

What is the id of this plant? The third picture is only to have a look at the seeds. The leaves in the third picture is that of some other weed.

I think this is ‘Spanish needles’ i.e. Bidens frondosa

Thanks to you friends.

You know something …, the leaves are edible. It has a peculiar odour, but it is supposed to be medicinal.

Is this Bidens pilosa? Looks a little different from the other B. pilosa plants I have seen. Is it the variation ‘minor’ as in efloraofindia page? Please advise.

The ray florets are not very prominent, so it may be Bidens bipinnata L

Thank you … once again. Doesn’t B. bipinnata have pinnate fern-like leaves?

Leaflet (segment) margin is prominently toothed/serrate, so it should be B. biternata. Also leaves are less divided with large terminal segment. In B. bipinnata leaves are twice to thrice pinnatisect with entire leaflet (segment) margin. Both lack rays or may have up to 5 yellow ones, they are white and prominent in B. pilosa.

Thank you very much … once again. I had thought of B. biternata and then disregarded it because of the number of leaflets; http://eol.org/pages/2895874/overview
My sample had three instead of 5-7 suggested by the eol site.

Nice case to remember for good pictures and … differential diagnosis

I took a couple more photos of the plant yesterday to see if it illustrates better. The petals looks white (perhaps faded from yellow as we see yellow lines on the white surface) and another head is forming the achenes. 3 images.
