Desmodium ¿ triflorum ?
Please validate this plant whether Desmodium triflorum. Somehow the pair of basal leaflets seem as large as the terminal, and also seem rounded at both ends. Dimensions of flowers, leaves are same as those of D. triflorum.

Fabaceae-Faboideae (Papilionaceae) Week: Desmodium microphyllum????? from Assan barrage Dakpathar: This small herb photographed along Assan barrage Dakpathar in September, appears to be Desmodium microphyllum with rounded leaflet apex. Kindly give your opinion

It looks me like Desmodium heterocarpon.

Desmodium heterocarpon is a much larger shrub with leaflets longer than 3 cm and flowers in a terminal or axillary up to 7 cm long raceme.

This one was a much smaller plant, leaflets barely 1 cm or less long and flowers in few-flowered raceme.

for me it looks like Indigofera prostrata….

It is Desmodium triflorum not Indigofera prostrata. I.prostrata is like this.

yes i agreed, its Desmodium sp probably D.triflorum

Desmodium riddle from Hooghly: This plant is growing just in front of our main gate, on brick & mortar!

Well, years of accumulation of dust, mud, debris etc made this brick & mortar another cradle of life! And a part of this space turned itself into a garden, dominated by this tiny creeping herb.
An illustration found in FoP tells me that this might be Desmodium triflorum (L.) DC., but the description tells me that my flowers are much smaller. Searched the group posts, found.
On the other hand, images and description of leaves available in the sites below prevent me to ID this as D. microphyllum (Thunb.) DC. –

… am making an attempt to analyze … may not be correct.

  1. The leaves in picture at http://www.virboga.de/Desmodium_microphyllum.htm do not resemble to those in your plant; also cannot make out whether the leaves at virboga are trifoliate.
  2. The plant’s habit in http://89sky.net/vbb/showthread.php?p=41778 does not look like that of your plant. Your plant seems more of a ground cover; the plant in referred link seems to have relatively, loosely spaced nodes.
  3. and 4. The eflora links give descriptions of the leaves – was wanting to find whether there is any mention of the emarginate leaflets – clearly seen in your photos (the notches can be seen of those leaflets which are wholly facing) … the leaflets in the pictures of first two links do not show emarginate leaflets; the 89sky.net picture has mucronate leaflets.

Your plant does not seem to matching to any of those in the listed links.
I would believe your plant to be Desmodium triflorum.
Let us wait for comments.

Certainly this is not D. microphyllum, i copy a line from my post, “……. images and description of leaves available in the sites below prevent me to ID this as D. microphyllum (Thunb.) DC. -…. .”

Attaching another image…. do you think the leaflets at top left have some amount of mucronate or mucronulate element?

Indeed yes … !
They are emarginate too.

Thank you …, will try to find its pod and explore further, thought it would be easy to ID with the help of this couple of images!

Fresh pics and i agree with Desmodium triflorum (L.) DC.

Desmodium triflorum

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Desmodium%20triflorum.jpg

Name of the species: Desmodium triflorum
Family: Papilionaceae
Place of collection: Ranpur, Nayagarh, Orissa
Habit: Herb
Habitat: Wild, grasslands, rice fields, forest boundary

Altitude: 100 to 300 m above msl

Please check, it does not look like Desmodium triflorum, the leaves are clearly simple especially in your second photograph. Could it be some species of Indigofera.

Please compare with my photograph uploaded yesterday.

Only Ist Pix looks like Desmodium triflorum

yes even i think, photos are mixed here..

i have checked some of the images of the same species and dug out them. Now i recalled that to take a close up of the flower i took out the leaves from the branches which is shown in the picture. The other thing is the time when i took photograph, the leaves were not completely open. U can find this in one more image which i am attaching for your kind conformation. The leaves are trifoliate here. Sir kindly have a look on the trifoliate leaves of the attached picture. I had also gone through your upload on same species. looks much similar to me except the petiole which is not seen in my pictures as the leaves are yet to open properly.

this is alright, agreed D. triflorum, i guess we are concerned about the other images with Simple leaves..

It is very obvious that first photograph belongs to one species, and all others to another (Alysicarpus or Indigofera), the fruit in third photograph is much longer for this species swollen and constricted on both sides. In D. triflorum it is flattened, straight on upper side and constricted on lower side only.

Yes sir i agreed with you completely. I was checking my original photographs. there is a mix up. I wl take care of this in my coming posts. I wl try to ID the other species in the post also.
