could be, but whatever it is …its markedly diseased. the leaves seem to be haphazardly deformed, i see leaf-borer in one and something causing the distortions …malnutrition or infections…

I failed to apprehend that the plant could be sick. But, where is the borer, first pic?

I think you are right. It does appear to be Duranta erecta.

It is often pruned to a reasonable height and is not allowed to grow freely to produce flowers which are aften seen only in large and tall plants. Hope I have shared something out of my common sense assumptions.
Incidently as everyone knows apart from good nice bright green foliage it also produces colourful flowers and equally colourful fruits too. All of different colours.

Yes it looks like Duranta erecta

There are a few Duranta erecta shrubs at Kamarkundu Railway Station (Hooghly), where i board train daily. My assumption was based on my earlier post.

Flower ID Request 20120620-AM:

I have attached three crops of the flowers, leaves and fruits of a plant. Please let me know which flower it could be. The following information is available.

Date/Time- 2012-06-16 / 10:00hrs

Location- Bhaje Village near Lonavala in Pune District of Maharashtra

Habitat- Wild

Plant Habit- Seemed like a large Shrub

Height – Around 2 metres

Leaves – Small, around 2-3 cm

Flowers – Small, light purple in colour (Pic attached)

Fruits – Small, round, orange coloured fruits (Pic attached)

There were fruits on some of the branches while flowers were still visible on most others. Another important thing is that this plant was growing on the slopes of the Sahyadris which is what the Western Ghats are called in Maharashtra.

DURANTA REPENS:
Attaching two images of a very common hedge plant called Duranta repens. According to D V Cowen (FLOWERING TREES AND SHRUBS IN INDIA ), the shrub is a native of the West Indies, but is now popular in India as hedge. The plant is popularly known as GOLDEN DEWDROPS. The berries steeped in liquid are claimed to be lethal to gnats and mosquitoes.

This species is present as promising remedy for Dyspnoea in my database. It is important ingredient of Indo-Caribbean Herbal Formulations. (Transcultural Pharmacy)

Now called as Duranta erecta.

Date: 6 MAY 2018
Location: Pune
Habitat: Residential garden
Plant habit: Shrub
My guess: Asystasia intrusa

consistent with Asystasia gangetica

This is a cultivar of Duranta erecta L. [Verbenaceae].

Thank you … for answering my query.
Looking at the dark colour of the flower I got confused. Also I was looking for the flower with whitish edge. The light blue colour of Duranta erecta does not show whitish edge distinctly. I have summarized my observations below. May be you can contribute to it more.

Very nice! i hope they adapt to the chemical and microwaves of our cell phones and survive. they were here long before hominids even walked upright. we have no right to destroy them. cut down on cell phone use is one way. the other is chemicals in farming and home cleaning, cosmetics and car fuel etc.

Thank you … I understand your concern. Homosepian is hell bend to extinguish itself.
But before doing so he will turn this beautiful world into an inferno.
And we claim to be most intelligent!.

I agree with you.

Citharexylum

Thank you … ! Citharexylum spinosum ?

Calyx and shape of the petals look a bit different from images at Citharexylum spinosum

For me it is not Citharexylum. The flowers are not so big and fruits are also different.

No doubt in it for me …,
Don’t mind, see again and let us enlighten if it’s really another one, we will follow you,

Dharamshala, HP

Should be Duranta sp.

I spoke with a colleague who is a local here and he said people called it Neelkanta in the local dialect. That would probably make it Duranta erecta ‘variegata’. Please advise.

local names do not mean that it speaks of a specific species. and that big a duranta?
