The corolla of this plant is 2-lipped; upper lip entire (sometimes) or 2-fid; lower lip deeply 3-lobed. The prominent 3 lobed lower lip always give an impression that it has 3 petals but actually they are 3 lobes of the lower lip of the bi-lobed corolla.

Extremely rare in the plant world are species with attractive green flowers. Green Ecbolium has glossy green foliage and extra unique bloom spikes of showy teal green flowers. This tropical sometimes goes by the names of Turquoise Crossandra and Green Ice Crosandra, though it doesn’t belong to that genus. The author first saw this species growing in the jungles of coastal Kenya in 2002. A lover of heat, its foliage may darken even as low as 60 degrees.

I think in E. viride var viride, the bract tip is spinous, here it doesn’t look like so. My guess for this plant is Ecbolium ligustrinum. … my belief too: Ecbolium ligustrinum This reply refers to your subject line. Not a serious concern.

Please note that the flowers are greenish when they are fresh and gradually turn bluish after 1 or 2 days. I have often noticed that the site KEW many a times has been referred to as a valid data source. According to KEW Ecbolium linneanum Kurz is a synonym of Ecbolium ligustrinum (Vahl.) Vollesen.

Ecbolium viride is a highly variable and wide spread species often having many infraspecific taxa, but according to Dr Kaj Vollesen, who considered all infraspecfic taxa as Ecbolium viride only. So better to treat all forms as E. viride

Ecbolium ligustrinum is same with this one ? No. They are different. Pl. see Ecbolium viride & Ecbolium ligustrinum As per Prain and Haines we have Ecbolium linneanum Kurz. var. dentata Clarke, the current accepted name of which is Ecbolium ligustrinum (Vahl) Vollesen (vide TPL). This is applicable to then Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. As per FBI Ecbolium linneanum var. rotundifolia was recorded from Coimbatore, which have sessile leaves and current accepted name of which is E. viride (Frossk.) Alston (vide TPL).
