Native of: India, Sri Lanka, ?

The corolla of this plant is 2-lipped; upper lip entire (sometimes) or 2-fid; lower lip deeply 3-lobed. The prominent 3 lobed lower lip always give an impression that it has 3 petals but actually they are 3  lobes of the lower lip of the bi-lobed corolla.

Extremely rare in the plant world are species with attractive green flowers. Green Ecbolium has glossy green foliage and extra unique bloom spikes of showy teal green flowers. This tropical sometimes goes by the names of Turquoise Crossandra and Green Ice Crosandra, though it doesn’t belong to that genus. The author first saw this species growing in the jungles of coastal Kenya in 2002. A lover of heat, its foliage may darken even as low as 60 degrees.

I may not be correct, but,, little confused about the species id.
I think in E. viride var viride, the bract tip is spinous, here it doesn’t look like so.
My guess for this plant is Ecbolium ligustrinum.

… my belief too: Ecbolium ligustrinum
commonly known as: blue fox tail nail dye, green ice crossandra, green shrimp plant, turquoise crossandraHindi:

This reply refers to your subject line. Not a serious concern.

Yes Ecbolium ligustrinum from me too

Would appreciate your help to Id this fluorescent blue colored ? beetle on Ecbolium ligustrinum. It was moving very fast making a loud buzzing sound. Is it the mouth parts and the eye that is seen in the pic?

It is not a beetle. But it is a species of Amegilla bee of Apidae family. It is a solitary bee and a good pollinator. Very fast in movement and foraging nectar within few seconds (1,2 or 3 sec) it forages nectar from a flower that fit for this bee.

Usually after foraging bees/insects fold back the proboscis and then straighten as it reaches the next flower. But here since the bee is very fast in foraging and movement from flower to flower, it always keep its proboscis strait. It might be a strategy to avoid wasting time and keep the fast movement and foraging. If you follow the bee after visiting certain number of flowers, it rests somewhere and remove pollen grains and dusts from its body

Affirmative. This is the Blue-banded Bee [Amegilla cingulata]. Sending a few of my photographs taken on my property at Shahapur.

I feel the species that … had posted is different. There are several species of Amegilla.
I am not sure about idying species of bees by looking at pictures. Even entomologists wouldn’t try that. Because they need to get the minute characters of the insect. Here I feel that the species of Amegilla posted by … is different from that of  … picture.

Ecbolium sp. : a riddle: This is a very common wild herb found everywhere in villages. ‘ButterflyIndia’ (facebook) identified it as Ecbolium sp.

Which species?
A net search gave me more puzzle than a probable solution :-
Species : Ecbolium sp.
Habit & Habitat : wild herb, 2 feet (avg.) and more, undergrowth, bush, roadside
Date : 20-05-12, 8.58 a.m.; old flower & spider on 02-04-12, 9.37 a.m.; butterfly : common wanderer, male on 13-11-11, 11.38 a.m.
Place : Nalikul (Hooghly)
Please note that the flowers are greenish when they are fresh and gradually turn bluish after 1 or 2 days.

I have often noticed that the site KEW many a times has been referred to as a valid data source. According to KEW Ecbolium linneanum Kurz is a synonym of Ecbolium ligustrinum (Vahl.) Vollesen.

A reply as Ecbolium ligustrinum as per another thread by …

Ecbolium ligustrinum is same with this one ?

No. They are different. Pl. see Ecbolium viride & Ecbolium ligustrinum

As per Prain and Haines we have Ecbolium linneanum Kurz. var. dentata Clarke, the current accepted name of which is Ecbolium ligustrinum (Vahl) Vollesen (vide TPL). This is applicable to then Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. As per FBI Ecbolium linneanum var. rotundifolia was recorded from Coimbatore, which have sessile leaves and current accepted name of which is E. viride (Frossk.) Alston (vide TPL).
