I think this could be the native species Hydrocharis dubia. Leaves of Hydrocharis dubia can be ovate also, like the one seen in … picture. If I am not wrong, Hydrocharis morsus-ranae has only kidney- shaped leaves. I had almost assumed this to be a Hydrocharis, but somehow the leaves did not agrees. Requesting to please ID this plant with white flowers captured in a cultivated garden in Mumbai in June 2013. The plant was a water plant. Alisma species, more possibly A. plantago-aquatica. To me the white flowers look like Echinodarus palaefolius, Mexican Sword Plant. Does not look like Alisma plantago-aquatica Ottelia alismoides (L.) Pers. Looks different as per images and details at Ottelia alismoides It is correctly placed, but the species look different from the two in our database at Echinodorus The leaves in the pics do not resemble those of Ottelia alismoides. I am positive that the leaves and flowers belong to the same plant though. I would like to point out that there is variation in size and shape of the leaves of the plant (Echinodorus palifolius) I have observed in private garden in Bengaluru. Some leaves are broad and some are long. Please see the photo attached. Yes, …, images like yours belong to Echinodorus palifolius .
