Thank you …, I have another similar looking one, but don’t know if the ID is correct.

Similar flowers, leaves can be found in sites like
http://www.natureloveyou.sg/Impatiens%20balsamina.html and
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/13447/.
But then this genus is extremely difficult.

I drove down to Chamba this weekend for a short break with family and found this growing on the hillsides between 640 and 1300m. I think this is the regular garden balsam and must have escaped sometime in the past. There were quite a few scattered populations of these. Please validate

attaching images to two Impateins for identification from Nashik. please identify

it may be something different.

Just guessing, could it be Impatiens lawiiBalsaminaceae

This should be Impatiens balsamina var. coccinea (Wall.) Hook. f.; leaves cauline, alternate, deeply serrate, flowers pink or purple, axillary, solitary or fascicled with slender spur up to 2.5cm.

In Impatiens lawii leaves are always oppositely arranged and sessile-to-subsessile. But in images leaves are alternate.

Impatiens lawii does not have spur but this balsam has.  I. lawii has opposite leaves but this has alternate leaves. Although photos are not that good, it looks like I. balsamina.

Sharing some pictures I guess is Impatiens balsamina L. (accepted name) shot at Pashupati Forest Kathmandu on 16 October 2016 at 4400 ft.

Yes this all fist with Impatiens balsamina.  ‘Flowers of Himalaya’ say widely grown in gardens in Nepal – I have seen it growing along the roadside in Pokhara as if an escape from cultivation.
Native of SE Asia. Nasir in Balsaminaceae of Pakistan says cultivated as an ornamental in tropical and sub-tropical regions of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaya and China. Several varieties known with flowers white, orange, pink-red or purple.
Known from 1200-1900m in Nepal.

Sharing a photograph of Impatiens sp. seen at Ajinkyatara Fort, Satara region. This is the only photograph available.

Believe it. It is a variety (mostly ‘rosea‘) of Impatiens balsamina. But seems an interesting variety if it totally lacks even a short spur (not so clearly visible in the photo). This balsam commonly exhibits a number of freaks, some I have seen with three spurs ! Hope this is not a freak and if all the plants in the population exhibit same character it may be worth studying it further, especially pollen, seed and chromosome numbers.

Thanks a lot … for the valuable inputs. I will surely keep a watch on this during next flowering season.
