Commercial nurseries often train mussaenda to be tree-like in form for landscape use. Their natural habit is to produce many stems and it is quite a rambler.
It has silky, hairy, soft medium-green leaves. The plant’s color comes from bracts and not the small, often yellow, white or orange, flowers at the center of each bract. This is the same color-producing system used by tropicals such heliconia and bougainvillea. Bracts may be seen in several colors including rose, white, red, pale pink and some mixtures. Rubiaceae Week: Musseanda philippica ‘Queen Sirikit’ from Khalsa College, Delhi.: Shrubs often growing 5 m or more tall, with elliptic-ovate leaves up to 15 cm long, slightly hairy beneath; flowers sulphur yellow with 15-22 mm long tube, with rounded ovate enlarged sepal up to 7 cm long, nearly as broad.
This particular cultivar has enlarged sepals and bracts are pink coloured in this cultivar.

There is confusion on whether this particular cultivar belongs to M. philippica or M. erythrophylla, and sometimes simply listed as Mussaenda ‘Queen Sirikit’. However, the two species are quite distinct in corolla, it being yellow in M. philippica and white to creamy white with red centre in M. erythrophylla. The following key should help in separating cultivated members of Rubuaceae.
Link Perhaps more than flower colour which can vary the more important difference is
M. philippica: all flowers in the inflorescence with enlarged calyx lobes
M. erythrophylla: only few flowers in inflorescence with enlarged calyx lobes

Curious to know, what the rosy-red leaf like structure really represent – leaves or corolla-petals.

Height/Length-approx – 10feet Mussaenda erythrophylla – the yellow one is the real flower. Pink ones are the bracts (modified leaves). Musseanda philippica ‘Queen Sirikit’ . Mussaenda Species : Mumbai : 04MAY21 : AK-01: 1 image. The two species are quite distinct in corolla, it being yellow in M. philippica and white to creamy white with red centre in M. erythrophylla Most likely to be Musseanda philippica ‘Queen Sirikit’ Mussaenda philippica ‘Queen Sirikit’ seems to have lighter pink sepals with a dark edge.
Kindly check. Colour can change on camera settings. Id will not change on different hues of pink. Ok.
