Description wise size of both hirtellus and diffusus is same. I am attaching the image from supplement to flowers of himalaya. But description is not there as it is in Flowers of Himalaya not even in Consise flowers of himalaya

I think you are right. I got mixed up between R. diffusus and Ranunculus hyperboreus. Sorry for confusion.

This is a Ranunculus, from Chakrata, was merely 15-20 cm high, hirsute..
Conclusion pending and requested..

R. diffusus I hope

I also agree with you but the leaves are quite differnt hich makes the identity Dubis

This species was recorded from Pelling-Sikkim, interestingly one of the specimens was lacking one petal..
the herb was few cm in height, almost spreading, please help to conclude the id..

Ranunculus species in eFloraofindia (with details/ keys from published papers/ regional floras/ FRLHT/ FOI/ Biotik/ efloras/ books etc., where ever available)

Based on flower size, sepal-petal ratio, petiole and pedicel length, this maybe Ranunculus diffusus DC., but I am not sure, because the genus is very tricky.

I think … has doubt but according to me it is Ranunculus diffusus DC.

Ranunculus diffusus for validation
Photographed from below Tungnath in Uttarakhand

The plant uploaded resembles to Ranunculus aqualitis L. ssp diffuses

As per tropicos & eflora of North America,

Ranunculus aquatilis var. diffusus With. has range in North America

Interesting but true, this upload is similar to upload by …

But it is very different from many other uploads on R. diffusus page
May be they represent two different species
Some one should work on this aspect

Ranunculus diffusus or R. rufosepalus-GS01022021-2: 5 images.
I am uploading another population, from Khillenmarg, Kashmir which is very much similar to my upload from Tungnath:

and also very much similar to one uploaded by … from Nepal
All these three populations share similar small habit, plants with more or less spreading branches, basal leaves which are kidney shaped, less than half divided into three lobes, single terminal flower,
My Kashmir population from Khillenmarg, alt. 3000 m, 28-5-2012 is distinct from other two plants that stems and leaves are almost glabrous, with sepals tinged rufous suggesting of R. rufosepalous, although long hairs are missing.
Your opinions please.

Looks different as per illustration as in attachment and as per GBIF specimens (no specimen available from India and Pakistan)- specimen 1 and specimen 2

I could not understand what you wanted to convey. Both R. rufosepalus and closely related R. rubrocalyx are reported from Kashmir as per eFlora of Pakistan, BSI Flora of India and revision of Ranunculus in India (paper you have attached and I already have).

Thanks, …
I am not doubting that. Only saying that R. rufosepalus looks different as per illustration in the Monograph and specimens in GBIF. Also Author of the Monograph stated to have seen only 3 specimens and GBIF does not have any specimens from India nad Pakistan. So may it may be rare in our area.

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Ranunculus-hyperboreus-Apharwat-Kashmir-1.jpg
Ranunculus hyperboreus from Apharwat Kashmir:
Ranunculus hyperboreus Rottb., Skrift. Kjoeb. Selesk. 10: 458.1770
Small tuberous rooted perennial herb, stoloniferous, rooting at nodes; basal leaves up to 2.5 cm, reniform to orbicular, 3-7 lobed; cauline 3-lobed; flowers solitary 5 mm across, yellow; sepals 3-4 mm, reflexed; petals as long obovate.
Photographed from Apharwat Kashmir in July, growing besides rocks, alt 3300 m

it looks different from ours Chakrata ranunculus. Chakrata plant is hairy

Ranunculus hyperboreus is characterized by 3 or 4 sepals and 3 or 4 petals. Your flowers appear to have 5-6 petals. So, I think it could be some other species of Ranunculus.

I think this is Ranunculus diffusus (more specifically var. mollis) as per images, references and details herein.

Please compare the size of petals in my images and those on efloraofindia website. In all those images petals are broader and longer than sepals, in mine they are almost same size, petals much narrower.
Also compare descriptions in Indian Revision of Ranunculus.

Thanks, … So what else do you think ?

Flora of China gives measurements as Sepals 5, elliptic-ovate, 4–6 mm, abaxially puberulent. Petals 5(or 6), narrowly obovate or oblong-obovate, 5–7 × 2–4 mm,
Flora of Pakistan gives as Sepals 3-6 mm, ovate-lanceolate, 3-veined, with long patent hairs, membranous for the greater part. Petals oblong or narrowly obovate-oblong, without a claw.
Also see shape of petals in FoC illustration.
Details of flowers are also not very clear in your images and are mostly going towards fruiting stage, in which petals are weathering.
Otherwise also it is quite a variable species as per details at Ranunculus diffusus

I am an amateur/enthusiast with some knowledge of California native plants and plant families. Would like help from eminent scholars here on identifying plants from my travels through Garhwal and Sikkim last year. Will abide by posting guidelines; please pardon/point out any infractions. If any of you travel to northern California, would be delighted to take you on local hikes to see the botanical treasures of this area. March-May are particularly floriferous here.
Location: Chopta, in bugyal at the start of the Tungnath trail
Altitude: 2926 meters
Date: May 8, 2015
Description: Low mat-forming groundcover

The flower in the picture looks a Ranunculus species. The species level ID is possible with images of complete plant, leaves etc.

It looks like Ranunculus bulbosus– the flower and leaf indicates it as Ranunculus

Thank you for the helpful clue. I browsed the available Ranunculus pix on the EFI site, and I can understand now that leaf shape/size and side view is critical for identification. Will be more mindful of this in the future. Attaching another photo from the same location in which the pedicel is visible. 1 image.

I think appears close to Ranunculus diffusus DC. as per comparative images at Ranunculus

Pedicle looks glabrous and leaf looks thick like succulent.
I guess this looks like different sp.

This is unknown to me, moreover we need some more detail on flower, leaf etc. size and more photographs at different angles. We do not even know if it is annual or perennial to follow BSI KEY – http://efloraindia.nic.in/efloraindia/taxonList.action?id=1454&type=3.

Perhaps R. rubrocalyx as suggested in Facebook Group, especially after seeing this underside of flower in my plant
