Large straggling shrubs; branches glabrous, prickly. Leaves compound, bipinnate, prickly; rachis ca. 15-35 cm long, armed with hooked prickles; petiolules ca. 2-3 mm long; pinnae ca. 10-20 cm long; leaflets 3-5 pairs, subopposite; lamina ca. 4-10 x 2.5-6 cm, ovate-lanceolate, oblanceolate or elliptic-obovate, rounded or cuneate at base, bluntly acuminate at apex, entire, glabrous, dark green above, glaucous beneath. Inflorescences in simple or forked racemes, terminal and axillary, ca. 12-18 cm long; flowers ca. 1.5-2.5 cm across, bright yellow; calyx deeply divided, lowest lobe hooded; petals streaked with red upper deeply 2-lobed; anthers red. Pods ca. 7-10 x 2.5-3 cm, reddish brown, obliquely oblong, with papery wings. Seeds solitary. (Singh, 2000).
