A few photographs of Garcinia gummi-gutta.
Photographed from a garden in Calicut during March 2013. Though is a pretty big tree it seems that it has never fruited. Are the flowers in the photograph female flowers?
Popularly known as Malabar Tamarind or ‘Kudampuli’ (കുടമ്പുളി) in Malayalam.

Very nice set of pictures

ID Guess-29012011-PKA1:
I had seen few flowers fallen on the ground in a Forest near Motigudda, North Karnataka. I tried to look for flowers on the nearby tree but could not spot any. I am sharing photographs of this flower. Flowers were small in size (around 10mm). Pedicel is stout. Any guess on its ID…

Date/Time: 18-01-2011 / 05:00PM
Location: Near Motigudda, North Karnataka
Habitat: Wild
Plant Habit: I am presuming it to be a Tree as i could not see ang shrubs, Climbers near by.

Garcinia sp., perhaps.

Could  this be Garcinia gummi-gutta?

Can it be Garcinia sessilis??!!
Just a guess…

It is little difficult to confirm the species using just flowers. If you can provide at least a picture with leafy branch that would make life easier to try for the species. My guess is that there is a possibility of this being
G. indica considering the fact that this has taken from N. Canara! But not a confirmed one!

I think its Garcinia gummigutta

Garcinia cambogia and Garcinia xanthochymus:
Garcinia cambogia and Garcinia xanthochymus
collected near a hill stream from Nayagarh district, Orissa.
Place of collection: Nayagarh
Date of collection: 01/05/11
Altitude: 600 m above msl
Habitat: Near perennial hill stream
Please validate.

The id’s seems to be ok for me. But for conformation, at least for the first picture, we need more information, mainly on flowers and color of the exudate from the bark.
The Id of the second picture is seems to be correct! My guess is based on the size and shape of leaves. Further, the species name G. cambogia is now a synonym of Garcinia gummi-gutta (L.) Roxb. of Clusiaceae family.

Garcinia gummi-gutta (L.) Roxb.(= Garcinia cambogia (Gaertn.) Desr.), growing wild from Agumbe Ghat, one of the popular fruit used in nutraceutical industry for the production of Hydroxycitric acid.
common in Kerala, and Coorg area of Karnataka

i had never seen fresh fruits like you are showing here. only dry kokum at indian grocery stores. thank you
For almost a decade this was a fastest growing craze among sellers and buyers for quick weight loss..

may still be.. but those frantic markedly hyped ads are all but gone..  but i am sure just like the ponzi schemes it made the sellers of cambogia extracts, ad writers and ad distributors some real cash..
