It looks like Vitex altissima [Balage] to me. Please check. Vitex altissima is the name comming to mind too… This one is surely Vitex altissima. The plant looks like a Vitex sp. Vitex altissima undoubtedly !! This is called in Tamil as ‘Mayiladi’ and in Malayalam as ‘Naviladi’ (hope i am right). The meaning for both is ‘Foot of Peacock’ in allusion to the shape of 3-foliolate leaf together with the winged petiole. Vitex altissima in malayalam “Mayilellu“. I am not sure about the name Naviladi because there is a difference in names in different places of Kerala. Thanks …, for the correction as well as Malayalam name. ‘Naviladi’ is a Kannada name as per the link: http://envis.frlht.org.in/botanical_search.Vitex+altissima+L.F
It looks like Quassia amara to me. I will go with …, for Vitex altissima rather than those for Quassia amara by …, as per the images herein. Id requested! This is a tree up to 20 m tall. It’s without spines. Jhapa Eastern Nepal. 100 m asl. Date: 7 Nov 2020. Vitex altissima? Looks exact match and a new sp. for Nepal ! thank you for pointing this out and correcting me. I thought it was some species of Rutaceae. Tree produces berries during September-December. Flowering: April-May . Lamiacae: Vitex altissima L.f.: 2 images- 1 high res. location/date (both): University of Agricultural Sciences campus, Bangalore, July 1997 . ID KNR 06/2/24: 1 image. Please identify this tree from Kannur in Kerala. 12/2/24 Image is blurred. Any other pictures showing clear images of inflorescence? It reminds me of Melicope lunu-ankenda (Gaertn.) T.G.Hartley [Rutaceae]. Would be nice to have a clearer image though. Vitex altessima L.f. Check with this Lack of serrations on leaflet and wingless rachis looks like Vitex pinnata I think … is right as per images at https://efloraofindia.com/2011/04/05/vitex-altissima/ Looks different from Vitex pinnata as per https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:865935-1 . Nepali name of Vitex altissima L.f.: Please validate the Nepali name तिन पात्ते tin paatte of Vitex altissima L.f. Reference: The Useful Plants of India, Publications & Information Directorate, CSIR It has got no distribution in Nepal. OK, thank you, … I assumed distribution in Nepal because I found one conversation here: https://groups.google.com/g/indiantreepix/c/a This looks new for Nepal but not yet documented I guess. Yes, it may be a new record, if the observation of the tree was in the wilderness. I did a check from my end, as much as possible on the internet. I was not able to find any mention of distribution in Nepal. Perhaps, the name may be prevalent among Nepali people in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, where this species is distributed. Yes, I guess so. . |
