Seems to be Blumea sp. I think it represents Blumea lacera It is Blumea sp In view of the comments by … by providing the key for Id of Blumea species, … may decide by observing the prominent characters Reply from Another thread: Please take a relook to the post.
I think the above post is of Blumea wightiana DC.
The links of the pages i copied from – Hooghly : Blumea or Blumea like : white : 14 images. 3 posts by 1 author. Two of my Blumea species have been identified as B. lacera DC and B. laciniata DC.
Sometimes, i myself suggested the ID(s).
But, after finding two or three more Blumea or Blumea like plants, i am getting very confused.
Points to be noted are :-
This plant in this thread is –
All pictures are recorded at the same place, on different dates during this month. Attaching more photographs (3 images) of this plant, recorded today. It is to be noted that the heads bearing the achenes are smaller than those of Vernonia cinerea and the achenes are very slim and small. This aster plant must be most possibly a species of Blumea; hopefully the pictures will help to ID.
Standing about 60 – 80 cm, the herb was seen growing along the ghat road at various places. The flower-head measured about 4 – 5 mm across, and as can be seen in the pics, the entire plant was hairy. ¿ Blumea ? … (family: Asteraceae) It is Blumea axillaris syn. Blumea mollis Beautiful photographs …, as always. Rajgad, Dec 2014 :: Requesting ID – Small pink flowers :: ARKFEB-06/06 : 5 posts by 2 authors. Attachments(5) Blumea again possibly wightiana This plant also resembles the plant posted by … here which was identified by … as B. mollis. You are right, 17042011GS1 a composite from Morni hills for ID: | I think its Blumea mollis If this is Blumea mollis, then the other plant I uploaded as 17042011GS1 onploaded on 18-4-2011 should be something else Blumea mollis, I think has much larger ovate-oblong leaves 5-12 cm long and up to 6 cm broad, where as this plant has not longer than 4 cm leaves; also here leaves are sessile, whereas they are petiolate in B. mollis. More so florests are tinged purple in mollis, not here. I have collected lot of specimens of B. mollis for essential oil extraction and the major difference I found in B. mollis that whole plant is aromatic while the other closely allied species B. lacera only the heads are aromatic. One other thing in the photograph the heads definitely are not in full bloom and ofcourse not yellow (by seeing the photograph) to me they appear slightly white with tinge of purple so I will go with B. mollis The leaves of B. mollis look much different from my plant
I have confirmed it from Botanical Survey of India (Dehradun) herbarium and all the specimen lying there were similar to the photos attached by you and the plants i have collected. Perhaps we should wait in light of link of FOI and my other link sent earlier for B. mollis, Finally convinced as Blumea, my other plant is Conyza japonica. Yes Blumea mollis

This is the same plant and same set of photographs as in my earlier pending post – efi thread (Hooghly : Blumea or Blumea like : yellow). About a month ago i tried to retrieve data from the net. But, Blumea is a big headache to me. Bengal Plants has 13 species, sure some are not supposed to be found in our area. F. B. I. lists 36 species + var. + a few doubtful.
According to the Bengal Plants Blumea hieracifolia DC. is in Chittagong (in Bangladesh now, i think). It is a robust or slender, simple herb, with often scape like stems – http://plantillustrations.org/on=80 (who in our group has this plant?).
But, Flora of British India; vol.3; p363; gives more varieties. One illustration – http://plantillustrations.org/118377&id_publication=612.
Any possibility of this plant in this thread, or earlier? efi page on Blumea hieracifolia
Blumea hieracifolia DC should not be found in our area. But, it is the same place (a railway stn,) where i found Claoxylon mercurialis Thwaites (which should be confined in Behar of then Bengal province).
B. hieracifolia is as variable species as many other Blumea, it can be branched too – http://www.iiim.res.in/blumea_hieraciifolia.jpg (source – http://www.iiim.res.in/herbarium/asteraceae/images/).
Yet, it doesn’t confirm the ID. I think appears close to Blumea axillaris (Lam.) DC. as per images, details and references herein. Blumea sp.(?) from Kamrup district : Attachments (4). 3 posts by 2 authors.

this herb was seen yesterday (23.2.14) in a fallow field near Karjat. There was a single group amongst lots of Blumea plants. Height, about 1 – 1.5ft. Leaves whitish hairy, margins spinous tipped.
I’m not able to identify it. The closest I can get is Dichrocephala sp. but I’m not sure.
Please give your valuable suggestions. Dichrocephala species so far in efi. This is likely to be a species of Blumea… thank you for the suggestion. I initially thought the same and went through all the Blumea species for the area but I couldn’t manage to match it with anything! Blumea – some species in India & eFI with some keys May be Blumea axillaris (Lam.) DC. as per images, details and references herein.

Garg Ji how do you say it is Blumea oxydonta; B.oxydonta has spiny leaf margin, it doesn’t have any such, because I physically verified; its achenes are ribbed when observed under lense, all the anthers are fertile; (oxydonta has some anthers) hence by looking at the appearance of some plants it is difficult to judge correctly; Thanks, … Sorry, I goofed up.
I think these are close Blumea axillaris (Lam.) DC. as per images, details and references herein.
No sorry among us, identification of some plants are very intriguing, some are highly variable, then we must go for the decisive characters; some needs lens help without that we may go wrong. even there are differences between floras; your efforts are highly appreciable; but identifying without observing actual specimens some times is a challenge, that’s why many taxonomists ask for specimens. Hence so many revisions, so many synonyms etc., I learnt a lot after joining the group. you are a guide like person. never use the word sorry, I have also gone wrong several times. thank you for the care and attention
Thanks, … What are your views about Blumea axillaris (Lam.) DC. ?
