I remember observing this on open lands. Used to play with this widely growing grass and making boundaries all around it and calling it as rice fields during my childhood.

Kindly identify this grass collected from Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. I will be grateful if some one posts a picture of Actinoscirpus grossus. This is Cyperaceae member May I suggest a probability – Cyperus iria L.? Not a grass but a sedge – Cyperaceae, probably Cyperus iria To me it looks rather like Cyperus iria than that of Actinoscirpus grossus herbarium at KEW or illustrations available at FoC.
