No Ma’am its not a weed. I have observed this in the wild in the dry areas towards Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border as well. Shouldn’t be endemic in that case. Thanks for information, … I guess I misread the information here http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/229755. The plant’s distribution in Karnataka is given here. You can see it in the districts that don’t fall under the western ghats such as Bellary! In fact Sandur hills in Bellary form the western limit of the Eastern Ghats. I have identified this as E pumilum on the basis of it’s winged calyx and few flowered raceme.
Is there any other parameter on which it can be differentiated from Exacum pedunculatum?

Leaves – 1-2 cm Dark Green, ovate, oppositely arranged.
Flowers – 1cm star shaped Violet coloured with deep yellow stamens.
These tiny bright bunch of flowers on the grass always catch your eyes.
