Habit- Large shrubs or small trees up to 5 m tall.

Trunk\bark- Bark brown, rough.
Branchlets- Branchlets corky, with short internodes, glabrous.
Leaves- Leaves simple, opposite, decussate; stipule broadly ovate and subulate, interpetiolar, caducous and leaving scar; petiole 0.5-1.3 cm long, planoconvex in cross section, glabrous; lamina 7.5-15 (-20) x 2.5- 7.5 cm, narrow elliptic to oblanceolate, apex acute to acuminate, base acute to cuneate, margin slightly revolute, coriaecous, glabrous; midrib raised above; secondary nerves 12-16 pairs; tertiary nerves reticulo-percurrent.
Flowers- Inflorescence terminal corymbose cymes; flowers subsessile, rosy tinge.
Fruit& seed- Berry, globose, ca. 0.9 cm across; seed two.
Along margin in medium and high elevation evergreen forest between 800 and 2400 m.
Endemic to the Western Ghats- South Sahyadri and Palakkad hills, Nilgiris and Bababudangiri hills in Central Sahyadri.

I went by the pronounced venation on the underside of the leaves. I may be wrong.
