This link gives some fact sheet, & gave me some interesting information :
about malayalam name it is called Murikoodi, means wound healer;
quick healer of fresh cut/wounds in malayalam Muri / murivu means cut or wound and koodika refers to wound healing.
and same text  also found :
http://www.keralaayurvedics.hemigraphis-colorata.html
Here: <http://www.apsa.co.za/board/index.php?topic=2649.0>
where the member says it is a fish killer, coz it alters water chemistry when used in fish tank.
Courtsey: google search engine:
Also learnd that this is good as terrarium plant.

Malyalam name Murikoodi needs to be reconfirmed. I saw the Keralaayurvedics site where it is mentioned as  Murikoodi.

I searched on net. There is a google page in Malayalam https://ml.wikipedia.org/wiki/മുറികൂട്ടി. It mentions the name as മുറികൂട്ടി मुरिकूट्टि.
Flowersofindia mentions it as  Malayalam: Murikooti.
I will be talking to few who have Malayalam as mother tongue to get the correct name.

Attached is a picture of Hemigraphis alternata captured in a cultivated garden in Mumbai in September 2012.
Requested to validate the ID.

Yes, it looks like what I saw in Govt. Park, bearing an ID tag.

Thanks … As per TPL, the accepted name seems to be H. alternata and H. colorata seems to be a synonym…

Please help to know this ground-cover plant; the flower reminds me of Strobilanthes or Ruellia, but I could not come to any conclusion. The flower measures just about 10 – 12 mm across.

… provided me the ID to this plant as Strobilanthes dyerianus.

Not Hemigraphis Species?
Thought it was closer to Hemigraphis colorata.
I could be wrong.

Yes …, Hemigraphis colorata is convincing. Hopefully someone comments and resolves between Hemigraphis colorata and Strobilanthes dyerianus.

Strobilanthes dyerianus is very different.
The one posted is like a ground cover. I have posted Strobilanthes dyerianus earlier.
Common name Persian Shield.

Thanks very much …, for the clarification.

Hemigraphis colorata  W.Bull

Very nice. I have seen and photographed this with inflorescence, but the leaf color in my pictures from two different sites are a greenish,
one site does have some reddish/violetish tinge but not as spectacularly violetish as yours.
i was wondering, if you any body else knows reason for this please let us know

Thanks … One of my earlier post (then it was a query for ID) – the leaves in that post have similar colour “blends”. green to deep violet / purple. I think these blends may vary with various cultivars.

A cultivated plant seen this month.
Looks to be Hemigraphis Species.

Do you use cell phone or camera?

I use both. Cell phone always comes handy. But for longer shots, you need the camera.
These were taken on my cell.

Other recipients:
It is always better with camera when you carry. Thank you Saroj Kasaju
It is always better with camera when you carry.

Appears close to Strobilanthes alternata (Cultivated) as per images and details herein.

Looks correct to me but obviously a sterile plant.

Had seen a flower two weeks later at the same location.
Adding a picture of it.

Pl help with the ID of this groundcover herb clicked by my son from Hawaii on January 3, 2023.

At the outset I remembered the Hemigraphis which I grew in Chennai  institutional garden and suggested the ID.

Could be a H.alternata variety. I have not checked its new name.

I think you are right.
