Leaves simple, toothed,
Capitulum about 2.5 cm across, bluish-purple, heads all discoid with additional involucre at base.

Yes it is Centratherum (this cultivated plant is not even recorded in Hortus Third, which rarely misses any plant).
There is lot of confusion in spellings with from Centranthemum to Centrantherum. The correct species is Centratherum intermedium (Link) Less. Though regarded by GRIN as synonym of C. punctatum Cass., but Kew Plant List considers C. intermedium as an accepted name.

Why not Centratherum punctatum?! Just a suggestion…

Phyllocephalum ritchiei (Hook.f.) Narayana SN Sep 30 : 1 post by 1 author. Attachments (3).
Phyllocephalum ritchiei (Hook.f.) Narayana (= Centrantherum ritchei)- cultivated herb near Gudalur Nilgiri Tamilnadu

I could not find any image/ specimen or illustration on net for this species.
Also description does not match with images at BSI Flora of India (stated to be endemic of Maharashtra and Karnataka).
I feel it may be some other species of Phyllocephalum

Centratherum punctatum Cass. ?

To me appears close.

Purple Asteraceae from Sri Lanka : 11 posts by 3 authors. 1 image.
I attributed this Asteraceae to the genus Vernonia, perhaps the species anthelmintica but without much conviction …
Photo taken 18/02/2018 in Kawudupelella-Matale District-Sri Lanka.

… and thank you for the link on Vernonieae!
It seems to me that my photo is Centratherum punctatum.
Do you share this ID?

Yes. Looks like Centratherum sps.

No, it does not matches with images at Centratherum punctatum
It appears close to images at Phyllocephalum ritchiei (Hook.f.) Narayana as per comparative images at Vernonieae

I notice Phyllocephalum ritchiei which is more like the picture.
Here too, I can not find any reference to this taxon in Sri Lanka!

What are the species of Phyllocephalum reported from your area ?

On further checking it appears close.

We come back to the proposal of 17/05/2018!
