I think impatiens species.

Yes, it is.

I suppose this is Impatiens bicornuta, as it has rather long S-shaped spur.
Other species of this group grow in other parts of western and central Himalaya.
Compare
Grey-Wilson C. 1989. Impatiens bicornuta and its allies. Studies in Balsaminaceae: 7. Kew Bull. 44,1: 61-66.

Thank you … Pasting image from Flowers of India for reference please .

I am attaching two papers for your information.
Opinions of both authors differ somewhat and as I never saw species of this group by myself, I am unable to decide who is right.

So the conclusion is that Impatiens pradhanii H.Hara is an accepted name. I wanted to put this red-spotted yellow balsam as Impatiens pradhanii long back, but the taxonomy sites put it as synonym of I. bicornuta. I think I will follow C. Grey-Wilson, Kew Bulletin, Vol. 44, No. 1. (1989), pp. 61-66, and put this yellow species as Impatiens pradhanii H.Hara.

Confusion for lay person like me ! efi thread ?????

Sharing some pictures I guess is Impatiens bicornuta Wall. shot at Chandragiri Hills Kathmandu Nepal on 19 September 2016 at 8200 ft.
Note: I found the plant different in FoI webpage.

Images in foi link looks different.
But appears similar to images at efi site

The plant at FOI was believed to be Impatiens pradhanii
http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/5983170
Mrimpatiens
However, I. pradhanii is now considered to be a synonym of Impatiens bicornuta

Thank you ! Please advise which one of  the following link is correct and if my post is correct.

Impatiens bicornuta group is difficult. I checked both Grey-Wilson’s and Akiyama’s papers and without detailed measurements can’t be sure which one it is. What is interesting in no one paper lower side of leaf is described as red of purple!  PlantList is useful sometimes but there also are errors. I agree with determination of yellow flowered form as I. pradhanii. I think that without additional studies of this whole group it is impossible to decide if I. pradhanii is synonym or separate species.

Pl. also see feedback in another thread: SK673 25 JUL-2017:ID

It is Impatiens bicornuta Wall..

Is not Impatiens pradhanii syn. for I. bicornuta. POWO, GBIF and CoL says so.

That’s true. Now it is treated as a synonym of Impatiens bicornuta. The time this was put on the site, the main reference we looked at was the attached paper by Grey-Wilson on Impatiens bicornuta, where he differentiates it from Impatiens pradhanii. Also, the yellow flowers of I. pradhanii look so different, mainly in color, from the pink I. bicornuta. That is the reason for having a separate page for the two. Maybe I will keep the separate pages for the yellow and pink form, while retaining the accepted name Impatiens bicornuta.

Ok …!  But this merging is confusing since the flowers look so different like I. kathmanduaensis and I. discolour.

I am rather sure this is I. bicornuta s. str., due to geography and color pattern.
For 100% I need measurements however…

Balsaminaceae, Geraniaceae and Oxalidaceae Week: NS13: BALSAMINACEAE: Impatiens 2 from Gori Valley : 5 images. 7 posts by 6 authors.
This one is again new for me.. was shot from Gori Valley, near Chokori… id help requested.. may be … have found the identification..

I am sure this is one of bicornuta group – note very long and narrow lobes of lateral petals. It could be I. bicornuta, described as having “Flowers deep pink or purplish with a pale greenish lower sepal, pink spotted in the throat“. I don’t have any description or picture of I. harae also belonging to this group and also reported from Uttarakhand

Impatiens are difficult to identify in herbarium and are vary variable in size too! So many species (probably rapdly) have evolved in the Himalaya and Western Gats!

Already ID . Need to be removed from Un ID list.
