Native and universally cultivated in the tropical zone. – DISTRIB. Tropics of old world.
Low and sub-erect (V.Catiang) or tall and voluble ( V. sinensis), always glahrous or nearly so. Stipules 1/3-1/2 in. long, attached and persistent as in Phaseolus § Strophostylis; leaflets membranous, 3-6 in. long, acute, very variable in shape, broad or narrow ovate, or ovate-rhomboidal, with the two sides below the middle prolonged into obtuse lobes. Peduncles often exceeding the leaves, 3-6-flowered ; pedicels very short. Calyx glabrous, under 1 in ; teeth lanceolate or deltoid- cuspidate. Corolla yellow or reddish, twice the calyx. Pod in some of the cultivated forms 1 or even 2 feet long, under 1/2 in. broad, edible ; seeds 10 to 20.
SUBGEN. 2. Plectrotropis. Keel prolonged into a distinct beak, so that this group connects Vigna proper with Phaseolus.
These pictures are of BARBOTI in Bengali, a vegetable extensively used these days in mid-day meal scheme in schools as per GoI order.

This Vigna is more than 2 m and have pods longer than 30 cm. The one in the attached pic is 51.5 cm, excl. pedicel, clearly shows that it is V. unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis (L.) Verd­court. as per your keys.

Yes … For this key I had taken the help of Flora of China

These three are the only species of the genus described in Bailey: Manual of Cultivated Plants, an old (1949) but very reliable book,:
V. sesquepedalis: Asparagus bean, yard-long-bean: pod 1-3 ft long, pendent, more or less inflated and flabby when green; seeds 8-12 mm long.
V. sinensis: cowpea: pod 8-12 inch long, not inflated or flabby when green, pendent; seed 6-12 mm long.
V. cylindrica: Catjang: pod 3-5 inch long, not inflated or flabby when green, erect or ascending; seed less than 6 mm long, about as broad as long.    

I didn’t read the descriptions in FoC, this morning. Instead, i spent more time to find Vigna catjang Endl. in GRIN and The Plant List. But, couldn’t find any mention of Endlicher anywhere.

This climbing herb was seen at Panipat, in cultivation..
Should this be Vigna unguiculata..?

yes, i also think so, and since climber should be subsp. sesquipedalis.

I think this is Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis commonly known as “string bean” or “yard long beans”

Sir i also saw this first time, seeds were brought by one of our gardeners from eastern UP. and i am not so much 100% confident about ID. Trying to confirm on the basis of local names also
