Flowers of Exacum pumilum
Marathi name: Jambhali chirayat
Today at Sagargad, Alibag

Having never seen this  I was fo a moment confused about Anagallis arvensis till I saw four petals and stamens.

yes Exacum pumilum, beautiful small herb.

When for the first time i saw picture of this flower, i too was in love with it.
And when i saw it actually, i was Oh My God!! Such lovely flower, but its so small…
The flower doesnt exceed the size more then 1 cm and it is one of the flower found in the beautiful Kaas plateau as well.

nice color and is it a weed?

No Ma’am its not a weed.
It is a species endemic to the Western Ghats belt. The flowering period is September – October.
I had seen it at Kas Plateau, Satara (Maharashtra) October last year.

I have observed this in the wild in the dry areas towards Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border as well. Shouldn’t be endemic in that case.

Thanks for information, … I guess I misread the information here http://indiabiodiversity.org/species/show/229755.

The plant’s distribution in Karnataka is given here. You can see it in the districts that don’t fall under the western ghats such as Bellary! In fact Sandur hills in Bellary form the western limit of the Eastern Ghats.

I have identified this as E pumilum on the basis of it’s winged calyx and few flowered raceme.
Is there any other parameter on which it can be differentiated from Exacum pedunculatum?

I also agree with Exacum pumilum Griseb. as per comparative images at Exacum
Overall difference is quite apparent.
