Submisssion of Premna lucidula Miq., : 7 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (2)

I had gone through the Premna page, I would like to add one more species
Plant name: Premna lucidula Miq., Fl. Ned. Ind. 2: 898. 1858.
Syn. Premna hamiltonii J.L.Ellis.
Ver.name: Nauru (Tel.)
Family: Lamiaceae
Description: Deciduous trees, 10-20m tall; branches and branchlets 4 angled; young parts densely pubescent. Leaves opposite; petiole 2-6 cm long, pubescent; lamina ovate-cordate, 10-20 × 7-15 cm, base rounded or sub-cordate, margins entire, apex acute; densely ashy tomentose, and dotted with minute yellow glands on both surfaces. Flowers creamy white, 3-4 mm across, subsessile on terminal corymbs that are composed of 4-6 decussate-opposite dichotomously branched cymes to 8-15 × 10-15 cm., calyx cuplike, 2 lipped, pubescent outside. Corolla infundibular, 2 lipped, densely hairy on throat. Stamens 4, didynamous. G(2), ovary globose; style slender, stigma 2 lobed. Drupe globose 5mm across, black when mature.
Habitat & location: Rare. Found in hill slopes near streams.
Photographed at Nandanavanam near Kanigiri.
It is endemic to Eastern ghats.

Thanks, …, for a new addition.

Catalogue of Life (based on WCSP) & GBIF gives it as a syn. of Premna pubescens Blume

I have followed the Plant list at the time of writing my report 2 years back, even today the Plant list indicates as separate species

Further problem is that WCSP give its range as SW. & C. Malesia only.
So it may not be our plant.
Pl. check with herbarium images at https://www.gbif.org/species/3896431
It also list one image from India as Premna hamiltonii J.L.Ellis at
http://data.rbge.org.uk/bgbase/vherb/, to which your plant appears to match
As per WCSP, it is shown as a syn. of Premna odorata Blanco, Fl. Filip.: 488 (1837). (with distribution as Taiwan to Trop. Asia and N. Australia  36 CHH 38 TAI 40 ASS BAN IND SRL 41 CBD LAO MYA THA VIE 42 BOR JAW LSI MLY MOL PHI SUL SUM XMS 43 BIS NWG 50 NTA QLD (78) fla)
So should we close the id as Premna odorata Blanco, Fl. Filip.: 488 (1837).

Thank you for the opinion, It is basically identified as Premna hamiltonii at BSI , in the plant list the syn. at that time is Premna lucidula Miq., hence I followed the same; even in flora of A.P by Pulliah and Gamble’s Flora it is given as Premna hamiltonii only

Yes you are correct, the leaves are aromatic and used to get flavor in ghee.

Affirmative good photos of P. tomentosa

To me this appears close to … images at Premna odorata Blanco

Perfectly match with Premna tomentosa

Thanks, … But to me images look different from those at Premna tomentosa
Or are there misidentifications ?

It is commonly available in the scrub jungle and deciduous forests, no doubt in its identity.

If it is so, than images at Premna tomentosa are not properly identified.
Pl. have a look and help in resolving the issue.

Classification of plant Givotia mucronata : 11 posts by 3 authors. 1 image.
Please help on the plant and classification of plant Givotia mucronata
Could not find the classification and other uses

We have only Givotia rottleriformis Griff. in India. And it looks different from images at Givotia rottleriformis Griff.

Also could not find any match at Euphorbiaceae

This is not Givotia

Premna tomentosa ?
Lamiaceae family member.

This does not appear to be Givotia. It looks like Premna corymbosa. Check with the images of that species.

Thanks, …, I think you nailed the id.

Where and when this picture was taken ?
Can you send a better resolution image to check the details ?
Thanks, …, for the initial id.
To me it appears more closer to images at Premna odorata rather than Premna corymbosa or Premna tomentosa, with this low resolution image.

It is not PremnaGivotia belongs to Family: Euphorbiaceae of Malpighiales

Thanks, … But it is not Givotia.
To me it appears close to images at  Premna odorata rather than Premna corymbosa or Premna tomentosa

had collected from western ghats altitude 1000 meters
one of our botany professor told that it is Gmelia arborea but confussed since it does not have fruiting bodies in this season
