Shrubs; branchlets tetragonous towards the upper part of each internode, terete below. Leaves to 13 x 5.5 cm, ovate-oblong, acute at apex, subsessile, brown when dried, nerves about 12 pairs, subdistinct. Cymes 2.5 cm across, densely branched. Flowers 4 mm across, many-together; calyx teeth acute; petals 2.2 x 1.5 cm, ovate, acute, bluish white, filaments 1.5 mm long, anthers 1.5 mm long, curved; style 3 mm long. Berry 7 mm across.

Flowering and fruiting: January-March

I checked the images of both M.umbellatum and M.malabaricum in the Digital Flora of Karnataka with reference to the keys.The leaves in M.umbellatum are little bit petiolate rather than sessile-sub sessile as in M.malabaricum. Considering the sessile leaves and sub-sessile cluster of flowers in the uploaded specimen, it might be M.malabaricum as you have pointed out.
