Large climbing shrubs or woody vines. Roots are large tubers with fibrous roots below, globose, round or oval and other irregular shapes as elephant dung dropping, whitish brownish, smooth or slightly rough, deep yellow inside. Stems striate, brown, rough, fissured, branchlets fleshly. Leaves simple, suborbicular, subcordate or deltoid, 5-11 x 4-10 cm across, base subcordate or subtruncate, margin entire, apex acute or obtuse with mucronate tip, chartaceous, membranous, dark green, glabrous above, paler glaucous beneath, strong basal veins 5-7 towards the apex, 3-5 towards the base from the petiole, impressed above and slightly prominent beneath, veinlets very slender, finely reticulate, petiole slender, thickened at the base, attached about 1-1.5 cm inside the lamina from the base, about 7-15 cm long. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, umbellate cymes, pedunculate. Flowers unisexual, greenish yellow. Male inflorescence in axillary umbellate cymes. Male flowers, sepals 6-8, in series, ovate-obovate, apex obtuse, glandular, papillose on dorsal side, petals 3-4, thick, orbicular, base cuneate, apex obtuse, synandrium peltate, about 1 mm long. Female flowers greenish yellow, narrow cuneate, glabrous, style short, stigma 5-fid or lobed. Fruits drupes, subglobose or obovoid, slightly compressed, about 7-10 x 5-7 mm across, sessile, endocarp bony with erect tubercles, about 5 mm long, cotyledons oblong, apex obtuse.

Mixed tropical and subtropical forests, altitude about 450-1740 m.
Local Distribution: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura.
