Any idea about this tree?
This is a medium-sized tree, found in Lowland of Nepal at 100 m asl.
Leaves are think. Sorry for the poor and incomplete photos. Any other images ? Syzygium diospyrifolium (Wall. ex Duthie) S.N.Mitra ?? Thank you! I think the leaves do not match. The species you suggested has not been reported yet from Nepal. Lets dig it out! Yes it is not reported but found in Bangladesh and Assam. So I just suggested that there could be possibility. By the way flowering bud images indicates towards Syzygium sp. Please check http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=110&taxon_id=242425854 also. Could not find information’s about Syzygium wallichii (Wight) Walp !
I tried comparative images at Syzygium, but could not find a match, with these images Based on leaf arrangement I guess it could be Syzygium samarangense. Hope I will get phots of fruits soon. Please have a look !
NPR&ICS It looks close to Syzygium formosum (Wall.) Mason and POWO/CoL mention distribution in Nepal.
FB page Thank you …, here is one more clear photo of leaves. Hope it will help. … I will check flora of Bhutan as well. It looks close to Syzygium formosum (Wall.) Mason and POWO/CoL mention distribution in Nepal.
Thanks for pointing it out.
After looking into Flora of Bhutan, I agree with you. The species S. formosum has been reported from eastern Nepal.
Lets close this case by confirming it as S. formosum. Thanks, … for the id.
Yes, Syzygium formosum is possible as per GBIF, Specimen, Plant illustrations, Useful Tropical Plants, Facebook and POWO .
