Glochidion species?

… is right. It looks very much like Glochidion ellipticum (treated as G. assamicum in Flora of Thailand but we have combined that under G. ellipticum).

I think it is Glochidion lanceolarium (Roxb.)

I am no botanist, I can only compare features with a referral image. I will agree with your ID if you show me –
  1. stamens/anthers 4 or more
  2. capsule 6-8 celled (Roxb. – 6 celled, 12 valved)
  3. elliptic-oblong or lanceolate acuminate leaves

Else I stick to the ID provided by the authority of Euphorbiaceae over Indian subcontinent.

Thanks for your reply. I was go through with a picture and what I have seen actually in wild. Your three points is very right for correct  identification.
My identification was picture based found
http://www.plantphoto.cn/tu/108162
Please see the attached picture here with. The  images of this site fully similar with the wild tree what I have seen at Kaptai National Park, Rangamati on April, 2014. Many species of pigeons also have seen eating the fruits also.

Please check the illustration at – http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=109858&flora_id=2

Have some pictures here with. I think the fruit is very testy  to Pigeon.

Good morning … and thank you so much for these beautiful uploads. I do really appreciate your photographs and at the same time can feel your concern. But, I would request you see another illustrations and decide yourself, besides exploring other possibilities.

Glochidion ellipticum var. ellipticum … (family: Phyllanthaceae ~ Euphorbiaceae

Well …, We are not recognizing any separate variety under G. ellipticum and think that you may delete the entry var. ellipticum. Flora of Thailand is recognizing Glochidion assamicum as a separate species which we have synonymized under this species long back.  Unfortunately they did not study the rich gatherings from India now available in the major Indian herbaria and their conclusion is based on the study of specimens outside India and a few old collections as available in some European herbaria.

Thank you very very much … for this clarity.
Will revise the labels in my flickr notes.

Not at all unknow but just opposite. J.D.Hooker (1887) named this as Glochidion assamicum while Robert Wight (1854) called this Glochidion ellipticum and again in the same year as Glochidion malabaricum. All these species were united by Chakrabarty & Gangopadhyay (1997) and the name Glochidion ellipticum Wight was chosen by them for the combined species and therefore this name is to be applied for the present images unless you can establish that they are distinct species.

Actually the species is unknown to me Sir. Thanks for Id and your valuable information about the sp.

Glochidion ellipticum Wight … Phyllanthaceae, Euphorbiaceae s. l.
at Amboli on 27 DEC 11

From where do you get the correct identification and nomenclature. Hats off to you.

Marks for my correct identification are just about 50/100 – a very dangerous score. 🙂
Credits for identification go to a long list of my friends at efloraofindia, Mr Shrikant Ingalhalikar, Dr Tabish Qureshi, many friends at flickr website.
Nomenclature is found in many reputed sites – NPGS / GRIN, The Plants List, …

Although Flora of Thailand continues to treat is as Glochidion assamicum, I merged the species with G. ellipticum. The same treatment is maintained in Fl. of India vol. 23. The shallowly lobed 4-locular fruits are unique.

A correction here. The first two photos are of G. ellipticum, which has shallowly 4-lobed fruits.
But the last two photos with lanceolate leaves and deeply lobed fruits with button-like styles represent Glochidion candolleanum.

Oh, thank you very very much … for this clarity, and correcting the ID of the second lot of photos. Will correct my notes in flickr.

A further reply:
“Whatever identifications I made as Glochidion candolleanum (syn. G. neilgherrense) are actually referable to Glochidion hohenackeri.
Sorry for the mistake and inconveniences caused. Please inform everybody.”

It is not Glochidion heyneanum which is a densely pubescent species. I am making it as unread for the present. I will think later about it.

Looks like Glochidion ellipticum only. Female flowers or fruits are awaited for confirmation.

OK …, thank you very much for validating the ID.
Hopefully some day if I reach the site again during month April, would attempt to check the female flowers and fruits.

I think it is more closer to images at Glochidion ellipticum Wight rather than those at Glochidion hohenackeri (Müll.Arg.) Bedd.

Possibly Glochidion ellipticum but female flowers are required for confirmation.

.

I feel some of the images at Glochidion hohenackeri and Glochidion ellipticum may not be correctly identified.
May I request you to pl. check and point out the wrong identifications, where ever possible.

G. hohenackeri will have a button-like style while G. ellipticum has short columnar style. Very easy to distinguish.

The images are indeed a mixture of G. ellipticum, G. candolleanum and G. hohenackeri.

May I request you to pl. sort them out. Pl. tell me which are the wrong ones with id.

How to sort out?

Under G. hohenackeri in the website, the two images as attached are different (first two images): Imnage 1: A 184 = G. candolleanum. Image 2: Glochidion ellipticum (4) = G. hohenackeri var. johnstonei.

Under Glochidion ellipticum:
Under G. ellipticum, three images are of G. hohenackeri while one is Breynia trinervia. Attached herewith. (Nos. 4-6). Identity is given by me on the legend of the images.
Under G. candolleanum, both are okay.

Thanks, … Your may just give the link (by copying it) and remarks against that.
For now I wil take care as stated by you.

I have corrected these now in efi group as well as in efi site.
Pl. see if there are no further misidentification at Glochidion hohenackeri and Glochidion ellipticum

Glochidion zeylanicum (Gaertn.) A.Juss.

Glochidion is okay but image of female flowers or fruits are required for telling the name of species with certainty. Glochidion zeylanicum has supra-axillary and/or pedunculate inflorescences.

Leaf wise there is some possibility of this being Glochidion ellipticum Wight, as per images and details herein.

May be Glochidion ellipticum but confirmation is not possible without seeing the female flowers.
