aquatic plant for ID 020311AM1:
identification needed for aquatic plant from bhopal

This is a species of Potamogeton. There are many species and they sometimes hybridise.

I think Potamogeton indicus

Potamogeton indicus is quite possible but I am not sure

were there any while flowers. not like any lily we know?

Could  it be Aponogeton species?

I was getting at the idea that this may be one of the aponogeton sp of
I think it may be the one called water hawthorn because the leaf shape
but love to see the flower itself for definitive diagnosis
there are other aponogetons
AND SINCE you did take a plant ot two out, did you get to measure the leaves?? and get closer look at the roots and undersurface of the leaf?

The plant in the above photographs is Potamogeton nodosus (Fam: Potamogetonaceae).

Please help me to identify this aquatic plant: 5 high resolution images.
Date/Time- 21/04/2021
Location- Place, Altitude, GPS- West Medinipur, West Bengal
Habitat- Wild
Plant Habit- Rooted hydrophyte, with completely submerged leaf
Only a little part was outside the water
Inflorescence Type/ Size- Not found
Is it Potomogeton crispus?

Halophila

There are two different plants here.
One with sinuate margins may be Potamogeton crispus L.
Other may be some Aponogeton species as per comparative images herein.

Please look into this.
I must say that is only one plant. Part which was above water had such strange leafs.
As I have collected and kept it in a freshwater tank, today I find that roots are emerging from that part.
I also attached a image which I captured just after uprooting the plant from its habitat.

I do not recall if I ever came across either of the two genera.
However, since the upper leaves are floating, as per “Bengal Plants”, it would be Potamotgeton indicus Roxb = P. nodosus Poir. – GBIF
Please, note Potamogeton has creeping rootstock, while Aponogeton features tuberous rootstock.

What can it be ?

Seems Potamogeton. Flowers?

Agree ! Looks like Potamogeton !

I agree, but arrangement of leaves on the stem of the Potamogeton genus is typically alternate, meaning that each leaf is positioned at a different point along the stem, rather than directly across from each other. This alternate arrangement allows for efficient light capture and minimizes shading between leaves. This one has whorls of leaves.
Next, Potamegeton has floating leaves, and is an obligate aquatic plant, which cannot live on dry land.
I  believe, it is not potamegeton but an amphibious aquatic plant.

Yes, appears close to images at
