oct2015sk03/03 – possibly Gouania leptostachya DC. var. leptostachya : 2 posts by 2 authors. Attachments (9) I photographed this species on the day before yesterday in a village scrub where I found Callicarpa.
Unlike FoC description of G. leptostachya DC. fruits in my species are not winged. Fruits really are quite different looking in Wight’s illustration.
My species rather looks like G. tiliaefolia (tiliifolia) of “Plants of the Coast of Coromandel“. Hints of three-valved capsule can be seen in the last fruit pic.

Attachments (4) This small tree was shot from near “Guchchu Paani” in Dehradun.. only fruits were recorded.. hope this is identifiable… Can this be Gouania microcarpa ? I agree with … id – Gouania microcarpa. I think more closer to images at Gouania leptostachya DC. rather than those at Gouania microcarpa DC.

Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts- White Gouania lupuloides ! Yes this is Gouania lupuloides Gouania lupuloides Urb. Symb. Antill. (Urban). 4(3): 378. 1910 Catalogue of Life does not give any distribution of Gouania lupuloides (L.) Urb. in India. So it may be some other species. I guess this is Gouania leptostachya DC. only ! Sorry, ma’am, this is Gouania only not Sageratia, I too collected both sp., Differentiate characters,
Leaves have 3-5 lateral nerves, base not cordiform, ovate-lanceolate…….Sageratia
Leaves have up to 12 lateral nerves, base clearly cordiform, orbicuar-ovate …..Gouania

Thank you for the clarification. In the absence of fruit and internal flower structure, I have mistaken, The leaf veins are 3-5, distant and spines present in our specimen, thank you for the observations.

This one looked different. However, will keep it in mind. It may be Gouania microcarpa of Rhamnaceae (please note the coiled tendrils). … is right!! Thanks … & … for a possible id. Have checked the photographs of Gouania microcarpa in the archives of this group. Have not encountered anything similar at Shahapur, but will keep a watch. Leaf shape wise as well as per distribution, appears more closer to Gouania leptostachya DC. rather than those at Gouania microcarpa DC.

Regarding the identification of the sp. collected from Cuttack Odisha on Aug 2023: 6 high res. images. It is from Rhamnaceae. Yes sir thank you very much Sir Yes, it’s Gouania leptostachya … I too have collected from eastern ghats … locality paderu, visakhapatnam of andhra pradesh.
