Maybe this is Solanum torvum

Yes …, I was waiting for an input from …, but he may not be able to interact for next 2-3 days as they are out for flower hunting in Uttrakhand… this plant should be S. torvum… we had shot the same during our Chakrata trip last year..

I have posted a similar plant in February, this year, maybe will be some use in this regard – efi thread

I hope … is right, Solanum torvum

Kindly help Id this shrub about 3 feet tall growing in a private society at Pune
Not sure if wild or planted. I can see thorns on the stems in the pics.
Leaves as seen in the pictures. No flowers or fruits were seen

This should be Solanum.
May be Solanum torvum Sw. from its morphology.

Agreeing with … id, Solanum torvum.

I was thinking about Solanum spp from the leaf morphology but I have seen only Solanum nigrum in real and the plant was very small in size, no thorns on stems and leaf margin not so much lobed. I would love to see the flowers of this plant .

July 2012
This plant flowered in April 2012 and the fruits formed in May 2012. When I went to check for the ripe fruits the plant was not there probably it was removed as it was growing wild. Attaching pictures of flowers and fruits.

Solanum torvum. Chundakkai in Tamil.  The raw fruits are used in Vattha kolumbu ( a type of sambar without adding dal) is prepared in Tamil Nadu. It is very tasty with pongal !

Where is the problem …? I do not know if there is a look alike. For the past few days I have been examining several individuals. Most of the leaves are not prickly. A few somewhat shiny, but always have a feeling of felt when touched the surfaces. Attached here a few images recorded today. (24.2.15)

As per Tropicos,

Solanum rudepannum Dunal is not distributed in India. Is it Cultivated ?

My specimen is Solanum torvum Sw. (synonym of Solanum rudepannum Dunal) and it is wild and available here.
The fruit of this plant is edible and taken as vegetable. In Assamese it is known as Borbhekuri.
