I think it is an Acanthaceae Strobilanthes kind but I do not know how to go further!

Photos taken on 20/02/2018 in Rattota-Matale District-SriLanka.

Looking forward to your enlightened observations

This looks like Asystasia sp..

I agree with your thought, it must be Asystasia dalzelliana.

Pl. check the following in view of … id:

Asystasia dalzelliana seems to match well but it seems that she is
endemic to Western Ghats of India and it does not appear to be
Sri Lanka from “biodiversityofsrilanka.blogspot”. This site indicates 4 species for the Asystasia genus that do not fit for me in the photo … What is your opinion?

Perhaps Asystasia dalzelliana is also distributed in Sri Lanka; but may not have been recorded yet.

I agree with … as per comparative images at Asystasia

thank you for your agreement!

Yes, Asystasia gangetica I suppose.

I think it resembles Asystasia violacea ?

The species observed on Kas is called as Asystasia dalzelli.
Not sure how to differentiate though between different species.

By any chance Asystasia dalzelliana and Asystasia violacea are same ? In ” Flowers of Sahyadri” by Shrikant Ingalhalikar A.violacea is mentioned.

This is Asystacia nemorum [previously Asystasia dalzelliana / Asystacia violacea]. My photographs of this are available at this link

Thank you all for the correct ID.

The illustration in FoC showing narrower leaves with attenuate base… must be a variation.

May I request you to pl. clarify as to how you have linked Asystacia nemorum with Asystasia dalzelliana ?

Have quoted from Dr.Almeida’s ‘Flora of Maharashtra’, Vol 4-A, pg.9.

Thanks, … That means both these Asystasia dalzelliana & Asystasia chelonoides pages will be merged.

Negative. A.chelonoides is now A.chelonoides Nees var. variabilis [Nees in DC] Almeida [comb.Nov.]. It is a separate species.

Very interesting discusson

More interesting account of A. violacea Dalz. can be found in FBI. iv. 494.

Thanks, …, Flora of China says:
“…A. nemorum has a compact inflorescence with flowers clustered toward the apex, a long and slender corolla tube, blue corollas, and is known only from Peninsular Malaysia (where cultivated) and Java (where native). ……. & does not link it with Asystasia dalzelliana.

None of the sources at ‎Asystasia, links A. nemorum with Asystasia dalzelliana.
Thus I am not accepting Dr. Almida’s views in this matter until something new comes up.

2) … is Asystasia chelonoides confusingly close to Asystasia dalzelliana (syn. Asystasia violacea) ? … if so, any quick key to their ID.

Recently … has stated in another thread (Is it Asystasia ? ID25062013) as

A.chelonoides is now A.chelonoides Nees var. variabilis [Nees in DC] Almeida [comb.Nov.]. It is a separate species.”

Illustration at FOC shows A.chelonoides Nees as a syn. of A. nemorum.
And Asystacia nemorum [previously Asystasia dalzelliana / Asystacia violacea] as per Dr.Almeida’s ‘Flora of Maharashtra’, Vol 4-A, pg.9 as quoted by … in another thread
“…A. nemorum has a compact inflorescence with flowers clustered toward the apex, a long and slender corolla tube, blue corollas, and is known only from Peninsular Malaysia (where cultivated) and Java (where native). …….” & does not link it with Asystasia dalzelliana.

It is very similar to dalzelliana as per images, it’s hairs, design, sepals, leaves etc. except it’s colour.  It is very beautiful than dalzelliana.  I didn’t do anything to distorted it’s colour by camera, it is it’s original or quite natural purple colour.
