Is this Cucumis maderaspatana ? The plant is growing in JNU campus, Delhi.
The flowers are extremely minute, about 5 mm in diameter, and appear to be sessile and cluster at the axils of sessile leaves. As the fruits mature, however, distinct leaf petiole and fruit pedicels are seen and the leaves have become broader. The floraofindia photograph shows flowers at axil of broad petiolate leaves. Interesting member of Cucurbitaceae !! Mukia maderaspatana it looks like Same thought from me; the flower is exceedingly small, therefore was not confident. Thanks …!
Never knew about this character of Cucumis maderaspatanus. The leaves in my plant are almost stalkless, and the inflorescence is so hairy. I only knew this plant through … pics: 🙂
so, was not able to recognize.
But now some doubts have cropped up. Could Dinesh’s plant here
be Zehneria maysorensis?
The leaves look smooth compared to the rough leaves of my plant.
Any thoughts?
No Tabish, my plant at this page in flickr is of Mukia maderaspatana.
Zehneria has different flower structure.
Good work on Zehneria …says fruit ellipsoid in Z. maysorensis Thanks … for the clarification! Thanks … for the paper on Zehneria.
