Fabaceae for identification :: Feb2018 MK001 : 9 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (9)

Please help me in identifying this Fabaceae herb. It was found in a fresh fallow land, so I doubt that this could be under cultivation. Could this be an Alysicarpus sp.?
Height: about 1 metre
Date: 28 Nov 2017
Place: Dharwad, Karnataka

Looks like Alysicarpus glumaceus (Vahl) DC

It is Alysicarpus pubescens Law. ex Wight;  reasons-  hairy herb; standard yellow, flowers in dense silky racemes
it is a rather species

I think that standard petal is yellow in colour in Alysicarpus pubescens

To me it appears more closer to Alysicarpus glumaceus than Alysicarpus pubescens as per images herein

A heyneanus var heyneanus

Alysicarpus ¿ species ?
Not sure whether the aspects seen in two photos help in getting to species ID.
along Pasarani Ghat on August 25, 2010

probably Alysicarpus glumaceus

1- Alysicarpus tetragonolobus
2- For this send photograph  of habit
3- Alysicarpus heyneanus var. heyneanus

Thank you very much … All 3 are from same colony of plants. The 2nd and 3rd are same plant, one of them is close-up of other.

… sure about Alysicarpus … not familiar with species.

Alysicarpus sanjappae Shantanu ChavanM. M. SardesaiD. S. Pokle ?

A heyneanus

Should I take this as Alysicarpus heyneanus as suggested by …?

He is the expert on this genus.

I found a very similar looking image by … under Alysicarpus longifolius.
Can you please check?
I am adding more images that I have taken the same day.

Is it Alysicarpus vaginalis?

I think it looks different from Alysicarpus vaginalis as per images and details herein.
Pl. check comparative images at Alysicarpus

I think close to images at Alysicarpus heyneanus Wight & Arn. as per comparative images at Alysicarpus

Alysicarpus sp plz attach fruit photo- its easy for id

efi page on Alysicarpus pubescens J.S.Law with images

Appears close to images at Alysicarpus rugosus (Willd.) DC., but flowering time is quite different.

Its Alysicarpus heyneanus var. heyneanus

Alysicarpus ¿ species ?
The colour combination in flower seems to be strikingly different. Naive questions: Does it tell ID? OR are there many species sharing this colour combination ? Answers to this will help me very much.

ID of alysicarpus shall need photographs of pods …

Alysicarpus species in eFloraofindia (with details/ keys from published papers/ regional floras/ FRLHT/ FOI/ Biotik/ efloras/ books etc., where ever available on net)

There are other species of the genera Alysicarpus have similar kind of dual coloured flowers. In the images attached, calyx is much longer, since it is difficult to identify species because identification is mainly based on pods.
But, if the pods are rugose and stem is villous then it should be Alysicarpus glumaceus (Vahl) DC. or otherwise Alysicarpus longifolius (Spreng.) Wight & Arn. as flower pedicel are much longer..

Thank you very much … for your thoughts and the possible IDs. Indeed I must get to the pods in future to avoid ambiguities.

To me appears more close to images at Alysicarpus heyneanus Wight & Arn.

Wild Plant for ID : Nasik : 11OCT21 : AK – 019: 5 images.

I am not sure about the id as Alysicarpus scariosus

A. heyneanus var. heyneanus

Alysicarpus scariosus (Rottler ex Spreng.) Graham ??

I am not sure about the id as Alysicarpus scariosus

Shorter leaves and dense inflorescence should go with A. scariosus. Leaves longer, infl. often 10-15 cm long.

Shantanu ji is an expert on this genus and he has identified it as A. heyneanus var. heyneanus

Alysicarpus I’d request: 3 high res. images.

I guess it is matching to Alysicarpus longifolius (Rottler ex Spreng.) Wight & Arn. but it is not listed in Nepal.

Alysicarpus sanjappae S. Chavan et. al

Thank you … By the way I could not find its listing in Nepal.

http://plantdatabase.kath.gov.np/plants/alysicarpus-rogosus-willd-dc-kath013125 ??

This is definitly not Alysicarpus longifolius. I think Dr Pokle and should be able give the correct ID. Alysicarpus glumaceous is also a variable species.

it is not A sanjappae but appears close to a heynianus. However it’s leaves are characteristic of A scariosus. To conform identity it’s primary bract and secondary bracts along with pod with it’s uppermost article need to be studied.

So will keep it under Alysicarpus heyneanus, for the time being:

Looking at the leaves, it looks like Alysicarpus heyneanus

Alysicarpus sp?? But does not look like matching with two sp listed in Nepal.

This is one of the form of Alysicarpus sanjappae, it is procumbent, but shows erect habit due to support of grasses. Identify by height 30 cm, pods slightly exerted from calyx, inflorescence dense, pods transversely wrinkled. I am happy to suggest you this is new report of this species and it extends it distribution.

Some one suggested it to be A. rugosus ?
Further suggestion please.

Alysicarpus glumaceus (Vahl) DC.  ??
But not listed in Nepal.

efi page on with images Alysicarpus glumaceus
To me appears close with these images.
Are the images at above link properly identified ?

ID not yet validated.

I will keep it under Alysicarpus heyneanus, for the time being as per discussions at SK1556 10 Nov 2018:
