Requesting to please provide ID of the plant captured at MNP in April 2014. It seems to be some Pseuderanthemum but now I am confused…

Pseuderanthemum species so far in efi

… some cultivar of Pseuderanthemum carruthersii.

If you search Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum you will find similar pics. For info on the Pseuderanthemum you may visit the following links, for old literature –

Earlier one confusion surfaced in this group, where flower pictures were not available, and … helped me a lot, with Graptophyllum pictum – http://www.natureloveyou.sg/Graptophyllumpictum.html

…, I am considering Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum as synonym of Pseuderanthemum carruthersii. Is it not ?

Certainly …, I did use the epithet because I think, based on flower and leaf colour variations, sites like toptropicals, possibly a commercial, make it complicated. Originally these were Eranthemum perhaps (I need to read more to get more inside story), Radlkofer, based on reticulate seed (?) transferred it to Pseuderanthemum. The lit I linked in my earlier mail informs one was P. caruthersii var. atropurpureum (Bull.) Fosberg, another was P. c.  var. reticulatum (Bull.) Fosberg.

Earlier I addressed the issue in my threads –

Can you please help me in identifying this flower. (Attached)

This is an ornamental Pseuderanthemum sp.

its more look like Pseuderanthemum carruthersii of Acanthaceae. most probably atropurpureum variety.

Pseuderanthemum reticulatum Radlk. is a synonym of Pseuderanthemum carruthersii (Seem.) Guillaumin as per The Plant List & PIER.
There is one Pseuderanthemum reticulatum hort. ex Hook. as per GRIN
Which Pseuderanthemum reticulatum we are talking here in India ?

Please check the KEY

Also check for P. variegatum as the leaves are not clear in your photograph.

Agree with … i also want to see the leaves

Unfortunately I do not have pics of the leaves…my bad
Based on the key referenced by …, I do not think the flowers were 4 cm wide, as far as I recollect, well I may be wrong….

Your species looks like the one I had in thread or the one in thread, …
While GRIN treats the two as different taxa GRIN1 and GRIN2 Chinese Museum of Natural History and TPL think those are synonymous.

Thanks … for the info….however, very confusing…..I do not think that these leaves were purple on the backside.

You seem to have missed my e-mail address.
Your third picture shows leaves with purple veins. If you see DSCN4394.jpg in my thread, pasted in my earlier mail you will see that not all leaves have pure purple underside. At least two leaves there are more green than purple. Would it be impossible to find a few leaves in that particular shrub without any purple underside? In that very same picture in my thread one or two leaf even do not have purple vein!

Thanks … for pointing out…. I take it as P. carruthersii then….

And regarding missing you in the mail, its just that I do not know your email id.
When I reply to any post I click on the reply button and compose and send out the email, do not add any extra addresses in the Cc box other that those inserted by Google itself.
Is there any way I can extract the email addresses of the members of this group?

I do not receive all mails submitted to eFI. Unless mails are cc-ed or forwarded to me I won’t be able to reply those threads. Earlier I used to bookmark threads, but this is troublesome to check each thread regularly. So, please reply me directly, else I would be in total darkness about the progress in a thread.
Now, about ID of your species. Since it is ornamental, I think, you can save it as Pseudoeranthemum reticulatum if you like, but without author citation. Nurseries make hybrids, cultivars with so many parent line that one can not make out the original parents of a species. Since P. reticulatum is commonly known as “yellow-vein eranthemum” one would naturally ask for yellow veins! However, Dave’s think P. reticulatum as P. c. (var. carruthersii) while Toptropicals doesn’t think so.

Lovely pic, I gues some Pseudoeranthemum sps.

It does look like Pseuderanthemum. What are the common species in India?

i guess its cultivated one,, we get lots of hybrids for ornamental purposes

I had hotographed similar as Pseudoeranthemum carruthersii from Delhi

What about P. Reticulatum?

You have a point. the veins definitely look yellow, but there is a dilemma for me. I find in Hortus Third
P. atropurpureum (now considered under P. carruthersii): Leaves ovate or elliptic, to 15 cm long, purple or green, variously marked with yellow along veins; corolla 2.5 cm across, white with purple markings
P. reticulatum: leaves ovate-lanceolate, 12-30 cm long, undulate margin; veins yellow; corolla 4 cm across

I agree with your diagnosis. Flower size, colour, leaf shape and size all point to P. carruthersii.

.

Though the flowers are of same size, the leaves of this variety of Pseuderanthemum is much bigger than my previous upload.
Species : Pseuderanthemum carruthersii var. atropurpureum
Habit & Habitat : garden shrub, about 6 feet high

Please help me to identify this plant

Pseuderanthemum

Bhutan has single record of Pseuderanthemum palatiferum which is different from this one. This could be an interesting species.

May I request … to post the image of the leaves and showing the full plant.
After pursuing all the species listed in India as per details at Pseuderanthemum, I think it may be some escape from cultivation as per images and details at Pseuderanthemum carruthersii (Seem.) Guillaumin
Does not seem to match as per other species at Pseuderanthemum and GBIF as per the following (for specimens in our area):
