One of the commonest species in that area. Now belongs to family Phyllanthaceae.
Kindly identify this shrub possibly Euphorbiaceae, with pink fruits and edible leaves (when cooked). Photographed mid-Jan 2014 at the Gurukula Botanical Sanctuary, North Wayanad, Kerala.
The plants are harvested for their leaves and so the form is not natural.
Height about 1 metre. pink fruits about 1.5 cm.

Description:
Erect shrub up to 3m tall. Leaves alternate, 2 ranked; lamina 3-5 × 1.5-2.5 cm, ovate-lanceolate, thin. Plants monoecious. Male flowers 1-3 axillary, 4-5 mm across, greenish-white. Perianth disc shaped, 6 fid, feshy; stamens 3, disc incurved at upper part covering anthers with a maroon centre. Female flowers similar to males, disk 0, sepals accrescent in fruit, red. Capsule1-1.2cm across, white, depressed globose.
Habitat & location: Often cultivated. Rare in wild. Photographed at Nellore.
Flowering period: Almost throughout the year.

Sauropus androgynous also known as katuk, star gooseberry, or sweet leaf, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable. In India it is known as chekurmanis and in Kannada ‘Chakramuni’. The leaves are are full of protein. I have this plant in my home garden in Mysore. We often use the leaves for cooking .

Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size: Leaf arrangement is like Seetaphal/ ramphal (annona ..). Length of leaves around 10cm. However, the bark & stem are different.
Inflorescence Type/ Size- Not Seen as small sapling.
Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts: Not Seen as small sapling.
Fruits Type/ Shape/ Size Seeds: Not Seen as small sapling.

photos of this plant were clicked from Kerala in first week of January. the plant was of the height of approximately 5 feet and there were a lot of flowers hanging or dangling underneath the branch. the fruits were white and seed black. the seeds could also be seen on the ground as once exposed the seeds fell easily from the plant.
A lot of brown ants were also there which were sucking on the nectar of flowers.

The plant is common in Karnataka & other South Indian states. have grown this in my garden at Mysore. It is rich in protein and we use leaves as leafy vegetable. I will send the article in due course.

Observation: 09/02/2023. Riung District, Flores, Indonesia.
Description: It is a small tree that can reach a height of 3m. Presence of stipula at the leaf axils, black thorns. Also present on the branches and the trunk. Simple leaf, alternate phyllotaxis. Drupe type pink colored fruit. Small leaf axils yellow flower.
Habitus: Common in all dry tropical forest with sea influenced climate. Often seen in old village places (now naturaly reforested). Up to an altitude of 400m.
Use: The fruit can be eaten as a vegetable.
