Lily family herb from Manipur : 11 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (3)

Herb or shrub from Shirui Hill, Ukhrul distt, Manipur. Altitude: 2000-2500 m
Found blooming in early June.
Looks like a Polygonatum, but not sure.
Please identify

Any chance of Disporum sp. (Liliaceae).

Thanks for the lead! Could be Disporum cantoniense

I think looks different from

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/uk087.jpg
There is color variation in the species. Another attached image might help in comparison.

virboga ???

Looks like Disporum cantoniense ‘Blueberry Bere’ ??

flowersofindia ????

The Disporum canotiense image on the eflora of India page looks like D. calcaratum. That said, these are D. cantoniense, but they are quite different from the Chinese D. cantoniense which have dark purple flowers. The plants in Manipur and adjacent Myanmar are typically this pale pink color.

Polygonatum sps. (Asparagaceae).

This species may be Disporum longistylum (H.Lév. & Vaniot) H.Hara, Colchicaceae

I think it will be Disporum cantoniense (Lour.) Merr. [Liliaceae]

Thanks … Your ID seems correct.

This does look like cantoniense, but the length of the spurs should be measured to make sure.

A reply from another thread:

I’ll stay with Disporum cantoniense unless the spurs are longer than 3 mm and the plant occurs at lower elevations. Long spurs and an elevation under 1000 m would suggest this is D. calcaratum.

Which Disporum??
Google displaying different colored flowers for both sp.

To me appears close to Disporum calcaratum D.Don as per comparative images at Disporum

I think that these represent the white forms of D. cantoniense that should probably be treated as D. parviflorum or another older name. True cantoniense from China has purple flowers and is a deciduous plant. Most of the Indian plants seem to be evergreen and much larger in size. This is an area where molecular studies would be helpful.

This is a Disporum species, probably calcaratum or cantoniense given the spurs on the tepals.

Disporum cantoniense (Lour.) Merr.  ??

Appears so as per images at Disporum cantoniense

Thank you …!
Nepali Names : सानो कुकुर दाइनो Saano Kukur Daaino / महजरी Mahajaree

This is what is currently accepted to be Disporum cantoniense in the Himalaya, but the flowers seem smaller, the anthers and filaments shorter, and the style shorter than plants from China.
