Wild Plant For ID : Bangalore : 02DEC16 : AK-5 : 19 posts by 5 authors. Attachments (1)
Seen growing near a lake on 1st Nov.
Unfortunately, I have only one picture.

Malvaceae ? Sida or similar species ?

Hoping to get the correct id.

Could be Sida rhombifolia?

Pl. post the original image if you do not have any other good image.

Here it is…

I could not match it with any species at Sida

Looks like a Sida species to me.

I found … link of Sida acuta, having similar leaves with reddish veins. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dinesh_valke/6256027669

But stem of inflorescence is very long.

/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/P1150723.JPG
Adding pictures of the same plant taken recently. 4 images.
Unfortunately, it was swaying in the breeze, hence the pics are not too clear.

Thanks … Sida sp. to me too; and must be acuta.
Hopefully someone (calling …) helps in validating the species.
…, the flower stalk does look extra long – may be variation.

Agreeing with … ID. It looks like Sida rhombifolia to me, too.

MS/10/3/2019 – ID of the plant : 4 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (3)
Kindly identify the herb  :
Date/Time- October 2019
Location-Place, Altitude, GPS-  Vythiri,  Wayanadu, Kerala
Habitat- Garden/ Urban/ Wild/ Type- Wild  : wild on roadside
Plant Habit-Tree/ Shrub/ Climber/ Herb- Herb :  small herb
Height/Length-   1 to 2 ft
Flower – small yellowish

Typical population of Sida rhombifolia.

In this species leaf shape changes from early life to flowering stage to when plant is really old 6 months or more …
In early life leaves are broad, so much so they look like leaf of S. rhomboidea
In flowering stage, while older leaves are retained in lower section of plant, newer leaves definitely become longer than wide, a typical rhoiboid shape. Late life, old plants, leaves become much narrow, smaller in length too. Flowers become smaller too. But it survives and re-invigorates when gets water, in next monsoon, or due to human intervention. Really a perennial in favourable circumstances.
I wd. love to see variants, but could not go much ahead on the links provided by … in an earlier post.

yes. mahabala of ayurved

Thanks … for the interesting information on the plant. I was sure it was Sida  but got doubt on the species ID.

Subspecies of Sida rhombifolia : 4 posts by 1 author.

Catalogue of Life mentions gives subspecies of Sida rhombifolia with their distribution.
Those distributed in India are
Sida rhombifolia var. scabrida (Wight & Arn.) Mast. (syn: Sida scabrida Wight & Arn.)
Malvaceae of Southern Peninsular India: A Taxonomic Monograph V. V. Sivarajan, ‎A. K. Pradeep – 1996- from p.228, gives details of both Sida rhombifolia subsp. rhombifolia and Sida rhombifolia var. scabrida (Wight & Arn.) Mast. (syn: Sida scabrida Wight & Arn.). Sida acuta also have variable leaves. we have to go through this detailed monograph to have a relook at our postings.

Can anybody fish out Sida rhombifolia var. scabrida (Wight & Arn.) Mast. (syn: Sida scabrida Wight & Arn.) from our posts at Sida rhombifolia subsp. rhombifolia ?

I will try to go through the monograph as and when time permits.

Forwarding Monograph link as requested.

Sida species for ID : 6 posts by 4 authors. 1 image.
This Sida I saw in May ’18 near Kerala-Tamilnadu border, on way Munnar to Kumily, noon time.
It was top of a hill with wind-mill generators, and a cliff-face and deep down huge valley with farmland and coconut groves.
Place name  I do not remember now.
It was a very beautiful specimen.

More images.- 3 images.

Can it be Sida rhombifolia L. as per comparative images at Sida ?
Did you check the Monograph of S Indian Malvaceae.

I have also seen this recently in Wayanad area.

I guess Sida cordifolia !

There was a similar image with name Sida cordifolia on internet, but leaf is not matching. Leaf is much like S. rhombifolia.
The book, I am still trying, unsuccessfully, to lay my hands upon.

Did not find any match to Sida sp. Stems are hardy and flower buds look like Hibiscus.

Pl. check with images at Sida rhombifolia L. as per comparative images at Sida

There is a big gap in altitude and as per images the images leaf texture. do not look like matching.

If not Sida, please compare with Malvastrum coromandelianum, which shows a lot of variation…!!

Please help identify this tree.

I think it should be a shrub & not a tree.

This plant is clicked from Rajarhaat, New Town, Kolkata in Nov 2012.

Looks like Malvaceae, probably Sida.

Sida rhombifolia ?

Sida rhomboidea

Yes, I also agree. POWO treats Sida rhomboidea as a syn. of S. rhombifolia.
